W3C Offices Meet Face to Face
W3C's Offices hold their annual meeting on 10-11 January in Sophia Antipolis, France. "Office representatives from five continents have gathered at W3C's host in France to discuss local issues, recruiting and Membership issues, Office events and outreach as they plan for 2005 and beyond," said Ivan Herman, Head of Offices. W3C Offices work with their regional Web communities to promote W3C technologies in local languages, broaden W3C's geographical base, and encourage international participation in W3C Activities. W3C is pleased to announce the relaunch of the Internationalization Activity. The Internationalization Tag Set (ITS) Working Group, chaired by Yves Savourel (Enlaso), is chartered with new work to develop elements and attributes to support document internationalization and localization. Formerly task forces, the Internationalization Core Working Group is chaired by Addison Phillips (webMethods) and the Internationalization Guidelines, Education & Outreach (GEO) Working Group is chaired by Richard Ishida (W3C). The World Wide Web Consortium today released the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL 2.0) Second Edition as a W3C Recommendation. This second edition is not a new version; its purpose is to correct errors in the SMIL 2.0 first edition as a convenience to readers. SMIL (pronounced "smile") puts animation on a time line, allows composition of multiple animations, and describes animation elements for any XML-based host language. The P3P Specification Working Group has released an updated Working Draft of the Platform for Privacy Preferences 1.1 (P3P 1.1). P3P simplifies and automates the process of reading Web site privacy policies, promoting trust and confidence in the Web.
