November 2025 Kobe DevMeetup
DevMeetup presenter and audience
On November 9, 2025, in Kobe, Japan, on behalf of W3C and NTT Docomo Business, we organized a developer meetup along the annual TPAC 2025 event where the global web community met to coordinate the development of Web standards.
W3C values these events as they provide the global web community with an opportunity to demonstrate their expertise and exchange knowledge with local web designers and application developers. At the Kobe developer meetup, participants from the Kansai region and across Japan were encouraged to join. Many came and we took plenty of photos. In total, more than 100 attendees gathered to hear this year’s outstanding speakers reaffirm that the web remains an exciting and dynamic development platform:
- Lola Odelola, Web standards expert and co-chair of the W3C Technical Architecture Group, explored how web standards can unintentionally exclude users, especially those with disabilities or limited access. [slides]
- Paul Adenot, Software Engineer at Mozilla and co-chair of the W3C Web Audio Working Group, presented a physical and historical perspective of media latencies. [slides]
- Estelle Weyl, standardista, Open Web Docs contributor, demonstrated how to use CSS features to replicate state management and navigation functionalities in a slidedeck otherwise typically implemented in JavaScript. [slides]
- Kensaku Komatsu, director of innovation at NTT Docomo Business and chair of the Sync on the Web Community Group, demonstrated how MoQ (Media over QUIC) is a faster way to stream video and audio. It keeps live events nearly real-time, smooth, and reliable, even with large audiences. [slides]
The event ended with a live interactive performance, powered by MoQ technology and robotics, showcasing the Kobe-based idol group called “GootCrew”.
