Summary

The World Wide Web Consortium is seeking a remote full-time staff member to run the Office of the CEO. The role covers a wide spectrum of responsibilities to ensure that the CEO can focus on strategic priorities and deliver on their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

The role requires a high level of maturity, forward thinking, self-discipline, discretion, and excellent organizational skills. The candidate will be expected to operate at a high level of professionalism and be a skilled stakeholder manager. They will engage with staff and external stakeholders at all levels on behalf of the CEO and maintain excellent relationships with members of the Board of Directors. The role will report directly to the CEO but will also work closely with the Executive Team and the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic execution: Translate CEO's ideas into actionable plans based on comprehensive understanding of organization operations and CEO's vision, and follow through on implementation.
  • Project and Process management: Manage CEO obligations for our Process as well as special projects as assigned by the CEO, overseeing all aspects from planning to execution. Monitor progress, handle issues as they arise, ensure timely updates to our community as needed, and keep the CEO informed of project status.
  • Communication management: Act as a conduit for communication between the CEO and other executives, staff, partners, and members. Handle incoming and outgoing communication on the CEO's behalf when appropriate, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and timeliness. Liaise with members, donors and partners to ensure the CEO remains in contact with priority stakeholders throughout the year.
  • Information management: Streamline information flow to the CEO, reviewing reports and presentations prior to delivery to ensure they meet the CEO’s needs. Help focus deliverables on being insightful and actionable.
  • Board support: Oversee team ensuring the Board of Directors have the support needed handling scheduling, minuting, and other similar duties.
  • Time management: Lead CEO office staff in managing the CEO’s calendar to ensure the best use of meetings, travel time, and personal commitments. Provide relevant material to brief the CEO prior to meetings.
  • Media management: Coordinate with CEO office staff and W3C Communications Team to support the CEO in maintaining an effective media presence.
  • General: Attend meetings on behalf of the CEO as needed, act as the voice of the CEO in meetings and other communications.

Required experience and skills

  • Supporting upper-level / executive management
  • Reliably handling confidential or sensitive information
  • Coordinating strategic planning, budgeting, and other management processes as required
  • Excellent organization, time management, and project management skills, particularly in a fast-moving, multi-tasking environment
  • Strong communications skills and effectiveness in a diverse environment
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with internal personnel and key external contacts such as the Board of Directors
  • Ability to rapidly align with vision and help executive focus on key priorities
  • Ability to manage urgent tasks with little direction on behalf of an executive 

Preferred experience and skills

  • Experience in related / similar work to W3C
  • Leading small teams
  • Managing senior-level and C-suite stakeholders
  • Ability to gather and present data and other information, particularly for rapid consumption in preparation for a meeting
