WAI-Tools Project Launched
The WAI-Tools Project, co-funded by the European Commission, was launched on 1 November 2017.
The primary objective of the project is to support the W3C work on Accessibility Conformance Testing (ACT), to provide a common interpretation of WCAG 2 in evaluation tools and methodologies.
The project will develop automated, semi-automated, and manual test rules that implement the W3C ACT Rules Format and follow the ACT Review Process, to provide a set of vetted W3C ACT Rules. It will add to the work of the Auto-WCAG Community Group and to contributions expected from other organizations.
Other objectives of the project include developing open source implementations of the test rules, and demonstrators that show their applicability in large-scale web accessibility monitoring efforts. The project also includes extensions to the WCAG-EM Report Tool and the development of educational resources.
On 29 November 2017 WAI-Tools Project held its first Open Meeting in Brussels, Belgium. It was attended by about 50 people in the room and another 10 remotely, with representatives from different governments, evaluation tool vendors and monitoring services, accessibility experts and consultants, and other stakeholders.
We are delighted to see this level of interest from the start of the project, and invite you to join us in this collaborative effort. The project page provides information on the WAI-Tools Project, including on how to participate:
On that page you will also find a form where you can sign-up (and unsubscribe) to receive updates from the projects as results become available.
We look forward to your participation and contribution!
