Advancing translational research with the Semantic Web
The Semantic Web Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group has reached a significant milestone in the publication of an article “Advancing Translational Research with the Semantic Web”. The article, which is a joint work of the interest group, has been published in BMC Bioinformatics, a peer-reviewed open access journal playing a central role in the bioinformatics community. It offers a vision of how Semantic Web standards and technologies can be used by the larger biomedical research community as well as by healthcare providers. It specifically describes the importance of connecting data and projects together, in order to advance knowledge of diseases and their treatments. Many of these points have also been incorporated into the HCLSIG Semantic Web demonstration at WWW2007 in Banff, Canada.
