Instructions for joining the Dataset Exchange Working Group
These are general instructions for preparing to join and participate in the Dataset Exchange Working Group. They are meant to inform both those who work for a W3C Member organization and those who do not.
If you have any further questions about joining this group, please send an email to the Staff Contact(s): Pierre-Antoine Champin.
If you work for or represent a W3C Member organization
If you are the Advisory Committee Representative of the W3C Member
You are the person responsible for formally joining this group on behalf of your organization and then nominating individuals to the group. You may also receive requests from others in your organization suggesting that you join the group; there is a tool to manage the queue of requests to join groups.
- Read the Dataset Exchange Working Group Charter.
- If you do not remember your credentials, you may use the Account Recovery form.
- Using your W3C Account:
- complete the form for joining the Dataset Exchange Working Group on behalf of your organization;
- complete the form for nominating individuals to participate in the Dataset Exchange Working Group. Note: When you rejoin a group after a rechartering, you do not need to renominate representatives; they are automatically renominated when you join. You may change representatives if you wish. See also the Patent Policy FAQ for information about meeting after a rechartering.
If you are not the Advisory Committee Representative for your organization
- If you do not already have a W3C Account (check if there is an account associated with your address), complete the Account Request Form.
- Using your W3C Account, you may use the Join form to notify your Advisory Committee Representative that you wish for your organization to join the group. You, yourself, do not join the group or make any commitments on behalf in doing so.
- Your Advisory Committee Representative will determine whether to join the group and have the opportunity to nominate you to represent your organization in the group.
- You will be notified once you have been nominated, at which point you may begin your participation in the group. You will also be subscribed automatically to the group's mailing lists.
If you do not work for a W3C Member organization
If you do not work for a W3C Member organization, first consider whether your employer can join W3C and get the benefits of Membership.
If this is not an option and you think that you have the expertise and availability to participate, you may request to participate as an Invited Expert as follows. Note: Your application is subject to approval by the Chairs and Staff Contacts of this group. Please contact Pierre-Antoine Champin to discuss your intent to complete an application before starting the process.
- Read the Dataset Exchange Working Group Charter.
- Read the invited expert and collaborators agreement.
- Read the Policy for Approval of Invited Experts.
- If you do not already have a W3C Account (check if there is an account associated with your address), complete the Account Request Form.
- After you got your W3C Account validated, complete a W3C Invited Expert Application. You should receive a reply within ten (10) business days. If your request is accepted, you will receive an invitation with additional instructions for formally joining the group.
- You will then be able to complete the form for joining and participating in the Dataset Exchange Working Group as an Invited Expert, at which point you may begin your participation in the group.
- You will also be subscribed automatically to the group's mailing lists.
Note: All actions carried out through this system are reported by email to the relevant parties; copies are sent to w3c-archive@w3.org (Member-readable archive).
