From Web Pages to the Web of Things
The Internet of Things is a hot topic in technical circles with many potential domains of applications, for instance, home automation, security, healthcare, manufacturing, smart cities and lots more. The market potential is currently held back by fragmentation in the communication technologies and a lack of shared approaches to services.
We are looking forward to discussion on how to address this at an upcoming W3C workshop in Berlin on 25-26 June 2014, where we will examine the potential for open standards as a basis for services, either between devices, at the network edge, e.g. in home hubs, or in the cloud. The combination of the Web of devices and the Web of data is expected to enable open markets of services with sweeping economic and societal impact. Open standards will be critical to enabling exponential growth of the kind we experienced with the early days of the Web, that saw it growing from a handful of enthusiasts in the early nineties to a global phenomenon in just a few years.
W3C workshops are free to attend, although you must submit an expression of interest or better yet a position paper. These will be reviewed by the program committee who will decide who to invite to the workshop. For more information, see the W3C Workshop on the Web of Things homepage.
Hello,
Internet of things is my interesting topic, my master's research was about it depending on XML and markup languages, I'm trying to improve my research and investment it in PhD or in business domain, so can you give some suggestions or advises about joining to W3c groups or what is the best way to get scholarship in Europe and USA, if you don't mind?
Is there any possibility to attend the workshop via Internet, e.g. a live stream or a report after that? I would really appreciate that because education matters! :)
it would be great if there was a live stream....many more people could benefit.

Dunno if you saw it, but Cisco, Intel and IBM are currently working on developing the "new IoT standards"...
It could be interesting to look at that.
