WAI Translations/tracking

W3C Translations tracking not yet meeting needs, so using this google sheet for temporary management.

(Here are the Video Intro subtitle translators, most of whom we invited to translate the rest of the page and the UI words.)

Action Items

• [low] Create page that illustrates all of the user interface words and phrases in translations.yml so translators can see them in context.

Prep Page for Translation

1. can be done in any order:
   • update frontmatter like anatomy (previous frontmatter)
     • add 'lang' and 'ref' and 'last_updated' in frontmatter
   • update link markdown
     • When is exact title: [[Page Title]](/link/to/resource/) -> Links to resource and takes the title of that resource if it is translated
     • When not exact title: [link text](/link/to/resource/) -> Links to resource
     • For WAI links: Use the permalink of the page they link to, for example https://www.w3.org/WAI/business-case/ has the permalink /business-case/
     • For links outside of WAI: Use absolute URL, e.g.: [link](https://www.w3.org/)
   • prepare for translations
     • for some repos, move content moved into a /content/ folder
       open: anything else need to be done, e.g., change paths?
   • set up Netlify preview, if not already done, per manual instructions
2. consider making highlighted version (example)
   • pro: translators really like it & results in better quality translations with less QA back-n-forth needed
   • con: must keep it up-to-date with any changes
