Big meeting:
TPAC 2024 (Calendar)

This breakout session aims to bring together communities and working groups that focus on web standards beyond the traditional browser environment. While much of the web's development has centered around browsers, there are many other environments, such as WebViews, JavaScript runtimes, and EPUB readers, where web standards play a critical role. This session will explore how these different groups can collaborate to enhance user perception and promote their environments in broader web standards development.

Description:
This breakout session aims to bring together communities and working groups that focus on web standards beyond the traditional browser environment. While much of the web's development has centered around browsers, there are many other environments, such as WebViews, JavaScript runtimes, and EPUB readers, where web standards play a critical role. This session will explore how these different groups can collaborate to enhance user perception and promote their environments in broader web standards development.

Goal(s):
Collaboration between groups to discuss challenges and identify areas where these environments can more effectively connect with web standards development efforts.

Agenda:

  • Introduction & Admin (5 min)
  • Roll call: Who is here and what environments are we looking at? (15 min)
  • Open discussion on discussion points (30 min)
  • Close up with minutes, follow up items, results etc. (10 min)

Session Objectives:

  • Foster collaboration between groups working on standards for non-traditional web environments.
  • Discuss challenges and opportunities in promoting these environments to both users and developers.
  • Explore potential synergies and shared goals across different projects like WebViews, JavaScript runtimes, and EPUB.
  • Identify areas where these environments can more effectively align with mainstream web standards development efforts.

Discussion Points:

  • What unique challenges do environments like WebViews, JavaScript runtimes, and EPUB face in relation to web standards?
  • How can we better communicate the role of these environments in the web ecosystem to users and developers?
  • What areas of collaboration between these groups can enhance user experiences and drive further adoption of web technologies?
  • How can we promote these non-traditional environments within W3C and other standards bodies?
