Agenda
Alexis Menard (Intel) is going to present a proposed new API to extend pen capabilities:
I’m reaching out to get some feedback on an API proposal that we (Intel) would like to add to the web platform. Pointer Events do not have a CG or incubation group so I decided to post in WICG. In case you have not seen it here is the link :
https://discourse.wicg.io/t/proposal-pen-customizations-api/6083.In short it’s a new API to leverage some of the new capabilities of some pens that have been on the market for quite some time already. I will not go too much in details in this email since we have put an explainer over here : https://github.com/darktears/pen-customizations
We are super open to feedback especially for the API shape, permissions, etc. None is set in stone and I’ll be happy to answer questions here or in the WICG forum post.
It’s a rather niche feature but it is useful for who needs it, for example artists and drawing applications. We have already few interests from some developers. A video is better than thousands of words so take a look at this video for the main use cases (with sound) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_wQm3dPpqI
Provided that there is interest we would like to move this forward in the standardization track at some point in the future.
