2007-11-13: The Web Services Policy Working Group has published two Group Notes: Web Services Policy 1.5 - Primer and Web Services Policy 1.5 - Guidelines for Policy Assertion Authors. The former introduces the Web Services Policy language with examples. The latter explains how to use the relevant specifications to maximize interoperability.
2007-10-31: The XML Schema Patterns for Databinding Working Group published updated Working Drafts of Basic XML Schema Patterns for Databinding Version 1.0 and Advanced XML Schema Patterns for Databinding Version 1.0. The patterns can describe XML 1.0 representations of commonly used data structures independent of any particular programming language, database or modelling environment. Contribute to the test suite, and read the interoperability report.
2007-10-03: The W3C is pleased to announce the launch of the Policy Languages Interest Group (PLING), chaired by Marco Casassa-Mont (HP Labs) and Renato Iannella (NICTA). The group is chartered to discuss interoperability, requirements and related needs for integrating and computing the results when different policy languages used together, for example, OASIS XACML (eXtensible Access Control Markup Language), IETF Common Policy, and P3P (W3C Platform for Privacy Preferences). Participation is open to W3C Members and the public.
2007-09-28: The Service Modeling Language (SML) Working Group released updated Working Drafts of Service Modeling Language, Version 1.1 and its Service Modeling Language Interchange Format Version 1.1. SML is used to model complex services and systems including their structure, constraints, policies and best practices. Based on XML Schema and Schematron, SML allows inter-document references and user-defined constraints. Read more about XML.
2007-09-28: The Web Services Policy Working Group released two Last Call Working Drafts. Comments are welcome through 19 October. The Web Services Policy 1.5 - Primer introduces the policy language and policy attachment mechanisms. The Web Services Policy 1.5 - Guidelines for Policy Assertion Authors provide best practices for creating policy assertions. Both are companions to the Web Services Policy 1.5 Framework and Attachment W3C Recommendations.
2007-09-18: The XML Protocol Working Group released a First Public and Last Call Working Draft of MTOM Serialization Policy Assertion 1.1. Comments are welcome through 15 October.

2007-08-02: The W3C received Web Services Policy Attachment for Endpoint Reference (WS-PAEPR) specification as a W3C Submission. It defines the semantics of including Policies and Policy References as defined by the Web Services Policy 1.5 - Framework within the metadata property of an endpoint reference.
2007-07-31: The Web Services Addressing Working Group published the Web Services Addressing 1.0 - Metadata specification as a W3C Proposed Recommendation.
2007-07-20: The Web Services Policy Working Group published WSDL 1.1 Element Identifiers specification.
2007-07-16: The Efficient XML Interchange Working Group, part of the XML Activity, published the first public Working Draft for the Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) Format 1.0 specification. EXI is a very compact representation for the Extensible Markup Language (XML) Information Set that is intended to simultaneously optimize performance and the utilization of computational resources.
2007-07-13: A proposed charter for Web Services Core Working Group is under review by the W3C Advisory Committee Representatives. As part of ensuring that the community is aware of proposed work at W3C, this draft charter is public during the Advisory Committee review period.
2007-07-12: The MIME Media Types registry has been updated and now lists application/wspolicy+xml and application/wsdl+xml as official application media types.

2007-05-09: Paul Downey, Chair of the XML Schema Patterns for Databinding Working Group presented the preliminary XML Schema Patterns for Databinding Interoperability Report during the W3C Advisory Committee meeting. The report covers 16 implementations, across 8 programming languages.
2007-04-27: The XML Protocol Working Group published the Second Edition of SOAP Version 1.2. It includes SOAP Version 1.2 Part 0: Primer (Second Edition), SOAP Version 1.2 Part 1: Messaging Framework (Second Edition), SOAP Version 1.2 Part 2: Adjuncts (Second Edition), SOAP Version 1.2 Specification Assertions and Test Collection (Second Edition) as W3C Recommendations. The most notable change is the clarification of the Request-Response Message Exchange Pattern, in "Part 2: Adjuncts".

2006-10-20: Position papers are due 15 December for the Workshop on Web of Services for Enterprise Computing to be held 27-28 February 2007 in Bedford, MA, USA, hosted by MITRE. Participants will discuss how to facilitate the processing of business transactions and interactions with systems that pre-date the Web, and to address the need to interconnect intranet and/or extranet services using Web technologies.

2006-02-21: W3C invites the public to the free seminar Using Web Services - From Infrastructure to Semantics in Paris, France on 6 March. W3C Members Amadeus, Canon, France Telecom, Nokia and W3C technical staff will demonstrate Web services in real world scenarios, show how business challenges are resolved, and offer a preview of semantic enhancements. The review period for the Last Call Working Draft ends 19 July 2002.
