Inclusion and Diversity Community Group

The mission of the W3C Inclusion and Diversity Community Group (ID CG) is to increase the presence of under-represented groups at the W3C, and strengthen W3C culture by supporting diversity. To serve this mission, the CG will:

  • provide a space to share experiences and information;
  • produce best practices and use case documents regarding gathering data, reporting/feedback mechanisms, and practical ways to support each other;
  • advise the W3C Management (W3M), Advisory Board (AB), Advisory Committee (AC), and Positive Work Environment CG about potential enhancements to our working environment to better support inclusion and diversity.

This group will not produce Specifications.

Note: Community Groups are proposed and run by the community. Although W3C hosts these conversations, the groups do not necessarily represent the views of the W3C Membership or staff.

Applications open for TPAC 2019 Diversity Fund

W3C has established a TPAC Diversity Fund, generously sponsored by W3C Members Siteimprove, The Paciello Group, Microsoft, Samsung Electronics, TetraLogical, Dyno Mapper, Adobe, Coil; and individual sponsor Marcos Cáceres.

As an international organization, we can see the immense value we gain from having greater gender diversity, and expertise from across multiple countries and cultures.

Applicants should be from a group that is under-represented in the web community, and unable to attend TPAC without financial help. Applications are due 14 July 2019.

Please find more information in the application form (a W3C account is needed).

If your organization or yourself wishes to become a sponsor, please let us know!

Call for Participation in the W3C Inclusion and Diversity Community Group

At our 22 October 2018 meeting during TPAC 2018, we agreed to change the name and scope of the W3C Women CG and to enable everyone to participate.

We’re now the W3C Inclusion and Diversity Community Group (IDCG)!

We’ve converged on the following mission statement:

The mission of the W3C Inclusion and Diversity Community Group (ID CG) is to increase the presence of under-represented groups at the W3C, and strengthen W3C culture by supporting diversity. To serve this mission, the CG will:

  • advise the W3C Management (W3M), Advisory Board (AB), Advisory Committee (AC), and Positive Work Environment CG about potential enhancements to our working environment to better support inclusion and diversity.

This group will not produce Specifications.

Call for Participation in W3C Women Community Group

The W3C Women Community Group has been launched:

A place for women at W3C to connect.

In order to join the group, you will need a W3C account. Please note, however, that W3C Membership is not required to join a Community Group.

This is a community initiative. This group was originally proposed on 2018-01-25 by Léonie Watson. The following people supported its creation: Léonie Watson, Coralie Mercier, Tanya Mandal, Xueyuan Jia, Virginie GALINDO, Oana Galbenu. W3C’s hosting of this group does not imply endorsement of the activities.

The group must now choose a chair. Read more about how to get started in a new group and good practice for running a group.

We invite you to share news of this new group in social media and other channels.

If you believe that there is an issue with this group that requires the attention of the W3C staff, please email us at site-comments@w3.org

Thank you,
W3C Community Development Team
