The XML Security Working Group has published a Group Note of XML Signature Syntax and Processing Version 2.0. This informative W3C Working Group Note describes XML digital signature processing rules and syntax. XML Signatures provide integrity, message authentication, and/or signer authentication services for data of any type, whether located within the XML that includes the signature or elsewhere. The Internationalization Working Group has published a First Public Working Draft of Requirements for Chinese Text Layout. The document describes requirements for Chinese script layout and text support on the Web and in digital publications. These requirements inform developers of Web technologies such as CSS, HTML, and SVG, and browser and tool implementers, about how to support users working in Chinese. The document is being developed by the Chinese Layout Task Force, part of the Internationalization Interest Group. This is still a very early draft and the group is looking for comments and contributions to support the further development of the document.

The System Applications Working Group is in the process of being closed, and are republishing the group’s working drafts as working group notes to indicate their change of status.

Task Scheduler API Specification is a specification that defines an API to schedule a task at a specified time. When the indicated time is reached, the application that scheduled the task will be notified via a functional event on a service worker. A task event will be delivered to a service worker, regardless of whether the application is active on user agent. Applications such as an alarm clock or an auto-updater may utilize this API to perform certain action at a specified time.

The app: URL Scheme is a specification that defines the app: URL scheme. The app: URL scheme can be used by packaged applications to obtain resources that are inside a container. These resources can then be used with web platform features that accept URLs.

TCP and UDP Socket API is an API that provides interfaces to raw UDP sockets, TCP Client sockets and TCP Server sockets. As such, this requires a high level of trust in applications that use this API, since raw sockets can be used to work around the same origin security policy.

The Spatial Data on the Web Working Group has published the First Public Working Draft of its Use Cases and Requirements document. It is being published simultaneously by both W3C and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and is the first joint publication arising from the collaboration announced in January. The document sets out more than 50 requirements derived from more than 40 use cases where geospatial information systems and Web technologies can and should work together more easily. Spatial data — describing geographic locations on the earth and natural and constructed features — enriches location-based consumer services, online maps, journalism, scientific research, government administration, the Internet of Things, and many other applications.

The Working Group expects to begin publishing its primary deliverables later this year, starting with Spatial Data on the Web Best Practices in October. Learn more about the Data Activity.

The Internationalization Working Group has published a Group Note of Additional Requirements for Bidi in HTML & CSS. This document was used to work through and communicate recommendations made to the HTML and CSS Working Groups for some of the most repetitive pain points. It is being published now for the historical record in order to capture some of the thinking that lay behind the evolution of the specifications and to help people in the future working on bidi issues understand the history of the decisions taken. The Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) Working Group has published a Working Draft of CSS Display Module Level 3. This module describes how the CSS formatting box tree is generated from the document element tree and defines the display and box-suppress properties that control it. The Internationalization Working Group has published two Working Drafts:

Character Model for the World Wide Web: String Matching and Searching. This document builds upon Character Model for the World Wide Web 1.0: Fundamentals (CHARMOD) to provide authors of specifications, software developers, and content developers a common reference on string identity matching on the World Wide Web and thereby increase interoperability.

Indic Layout Requirements. This document describes the basic requirements for Indic script layout and text support on the Web and in Digital Publications. These requirements provide information for Web technologies such as CSS, HTML, and SVG about how to support users of Indic scripts. The current document focuses on Devanagari, but there are plans to widen the scope to encompass additional Indian scripts as time goes on.

The Web Application Security Working Group invites implementation of the Candidate Recommendation of Content Security Policy Level 2. This document defines a policy language used to declare a set of content restrictions for a web resource, and a mechanism for transmitting the policy from a server to a client where the policy is enforced. The Web Performance Working Group has published a Working Draft of Preload. This specification defines the preload relationship of the HTML Link Element. The preload relationship of the HTML Link Element provides a declarative fetch primitive that initiates an early fetch and separates fetching from resource execution. The Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines Working Group (ATAG WG) has published a Proposed Recommendation of the Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0 and a Working Draft of Implementing ATAG 2.0. ATAG 2.0 provides guidelines for designing web content authoring tools that are both more accessible to authors with disabilities (Part A) and designed to enable, support, and promote the production of more accessible web content by all authors (Part B).
