Autofill Community Group

Every day on the web, millions of users enter information into forms to complete journeys ranging from e-commerce, to account creation and log-in, to government services, and more. Given the onerous nature of re-typing information, many user agents and other "Autofill implementors" (e.g., browser extensions) provide "Autofill" services to aid the user in easily filling in forms. However today, Autofill Implementors have a wide range of capabilities and behaviours, such that both users and websites are faced with different experiences depending on the Autofill implementor being used.

The mission of this group is to provide a forum for Autofill implementors to: develop a common understanding of Autofill and its interaction with the web; discuss and share known issues; and develop joint proposals to improve the experience of Autofill for users and website developers.

This group may publish Specifications.

Chairs, when logged in, may publish draft and final reports. Please see report requirements.

In order to join the group, you will need a W3C account. Please note, however, that W3C Membership is not required to join a Community Group.

This is a community initiative. This group was originally proposed on 2025-11-13 by Stephen McGruer. The following people supported its creation: Yoav Weiss, Stephen McGruer, Rew Islam, Cathy Li, Sebastien Aubin, Luc Fauvel and Jonathan Prusik. W3C’s hosting of this group does not imply endorsement of the activities.

The group must now choose a chair. Read more about how to get started in a new group and good practice for running a group.

We invite you to share news of this new group on social media and other channels.

If you believe that there is an issue with this group that requires the attention of the W3C staff, please email us at site-comments@w3.org

Thank you,
