Automotive extension is now part of schema.org 2.0
Posted on:Yesterday, the schema.org team announced that our automotive extension has officially become a part of schema.org 2.0, a major release of this Web-scale vocabulary.
For our community, this is a major step in its own right. The schema.org site directly refers to our “General Automotive Ontology” (GAO) initiative, prominently at http://schema.org/Car and on individual automotive property pages, and mentions our work in the official schema.org blog, as well as in the release notes.
The Automotive Ontology Working Group started as an informal community at the Makolab Semantic Day 2013 in Paris. It is good to see how this initiative is gaining traction and international visibility. But of course we there is more work ahead of us, like additional conceptual elements for car configurations. In the coming weeks, we will work on defining the scope and next work items for this community.
Stay tuned!

Congratulations and my gratitude to all who contributed to the GAO initiative. And, what a difference a few years make, for I recall seeking to discuss automotive Schema during a Google Think Auto symposium three+ years ago to no avail. This is just so very exciting. Thank you.
