It seems we have enough agenda topics and issues to merit a teleconference.
Dan and Chris invite you to meet Thu, 26 April at 1700 UTC (1pm Boston, 10am Los Angeles, and yes, 2am Friday in Tokyo; sorry).
Dan will send a detailed agenda with exact time, phone number, etc. at least 24 hours before the meeting.
The teleconference will be recorded in IRC in near-real-time, and we'll make an effort to accommodate IRC-only participation. Edited minutes will go out by email within a day or two.
If you have any input to the agenda, you're welcome to give it here or by email to the WG.

Laurens Holst | If it were 1 or two hours earlier, they would still be realistic times in LA (10am or 9am) while being a little easier on the people in Japan. That time will probably also better suit Europeans living on the mainland, as 18:00 will be out of office hours for most people, so 17:00 or 16:00 would be better. |

Josef Spillner | Clarification would be needed on the top200 vs. top200-US sites survey suggestions. The latter one would clearly produce skewed results, but the former one should also not be more than a tiny source of input, as top sites usually don't build HTML pages, they buy them instead. |

Sierk Bornemann | I would be glad, if we use this HTML WG to discuss and maybe to offer a new solution/new HTML elements/new mechanism to provide the user of a webpage the possibility to publish email adresses on his webpage (like it is demanded in some countries to fulfill the law concerning imprints and contact addresses) *without* the danger to be harvested by spam bots. The address prefix 'mailto:' inclusive a email address in plaintext is an invitation to any mail/spam bot. That's because some ugly, quirky solutions via JavaScript/PHP/Gifs/Captchas have spread the web, but none of it is a proper and reasonable solution for the average user this Working group mainly addresses. I think of a new mechanism, easy to handle for everyone except for bots. Maybe with the possibility of a digital signature like PGP or XML-Signature (http://www.w3.org/TR/xmldsig-core/) I vaguely think of a solution, like it is implemented in FOAF, where email addresses could be encrypted and published via SHA1, see http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/#term_mbox_sha1sum, to gain this goal. |

Henri Sivonen | I have doubts about the usefulness of a teleconference. I see the decision on spec starting point and editor as prerequisites for other work and it seems to me that a telecon can't be used to decide on the spec starting point and the editor due to necessarily limited participation. |

summary | by responder | by choice
In addition to the technical scope of this HTML WG, I can imagine there are lots of things people might naturally start discussing once we get together by phone... everything from W3C patent policy to collaboration tools.
In order to optimize the official WG teleconference time, I'm considering a supplemental orientation discussion, either before or after the main teleconference, or perhaps at a different time altogether.
What would you like to learn about? What would you like to say to your fellow WG participants? Use the comment field to say, and check all the options that apply.

I personally would prefer the orientation to be the day before at the same time, or perhaps a couple hours later; of course, I have no objects to it being at a time that doesn't fit my schedule (how selfish would that be!). |

It seems that to quite a few people it isn't exactly clear how this WG's work will influence the XHTML2 work and vice-versa, and similarly how to involve the CSS people. This should be added to the supplemental agenda. |

Bob Hopgood | I would like to see a more structured discussion with issues raised, pros and cons established in a reasonably formal manner and then some mechanism to move forward with a resolution. The current tidal wave of comments backwards and forwards appear to make little progress, is unfocused, and contains many comments that are treated as correct just because nobody bothers to refute them.
Murray Maloney | I guess that I will have to learn how to use tools. Should I plan a trip to Boston -- I would have to drive there -- to learn how to use all of the editing and repository tools?
