ISSUE-32: Is 'box-shadow' only drawn outside the border?

box shadow inside

Is 'box-shadow' only drawn outside the border?

State:
CLOSED
Product:
CSS3 Backgrounds and Borders
Raised by:

Opened on:

Description:
What casts the shadow specified by 'box-shadow'?

1) An imaginary opaque rectangle the size of the border box. Thus the shadow is only visible outside the border and its intensity does not depend on the box's content.

2) The actual content, border and background of the box. Thus if the box has a transparent background, you see the shadow of the text rather than of the box.

Option 2 requires an opaque background to get the effect of a traditional shadow, but it does allow other interesting effects.
