In support of its on-going commitment to developer training programs, the W3C today announced a new member partnership with edX on its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform under the name W3Cx. The W3Cx courses mean that thousands of developers around the world will have greater access to high quality training programs developed by W3C.
The first W3Cx course, HTML5-part 1, will focus on Web design fundamentals at an intermediate level. It is widely recognized that HTML5 is and will be the essential technology for organizations delivering applications across multiple platforms. HTML5-part 1 will be taught by Michel Buffa Professor at the University of Côte d’Azur (UFR Sciences). The Tracking Protection Working Group has published a Working Draft of Tracking Compliance and Scope. This specification defines a set of practices for compliance with a user’s Do Not Track (DNT) tracking preference to which a server may claim adherence. Learn more about the Privacy Activity.

The HTML Working Group invites implementation of the Candidate Recommendation of Media Source Extensions. This specification extends HTMLMediaElement to allow JavaScript to generate media streams for playback. Allowing JavaScript to generate streams facilitates a variety of use cases like adaptive streaming and time shifting live streams.
The group also published a Working Draft of Encrypted Media Extensions. This proposal extends HTMLMediaElement HTML5 providing APIs to control playback of protected content. Learn more about the HTML Activity.
