<Julian> anne, was I also trolling when I pointed out the bug that hixie already fixed?

<anne> dunno

<pimpbot> bugmail: [Bug 10805] treating single quotes as double quotes not needed for compatibility with existing content <11http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-bugzilla/2010Sep/1708.html> 4** [Bug 10642] No alternative text description for video key frame (poster) <11http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-bugzilla/2010Sep/1707.html> 4** [Bug 10847] New: Could small be achieved with a more general statement? Eg, Legal, notice etc. Its ver

<anne> Julian, don't think so no

<anne> (having looked at it now)

<anne> why?

<Julian> I was just wondering whether questioning "willful violations", and checking them with test cases now always is called "trolling", or whether it depends on the specific case.

<anne> it's trolling because all impls do one thing and rather than figuring out why that is so and working with them to do something else you try to solve it via the Process which will ultimately hang on impls not doing what the spec says

<Julian> it's incorrect to say "all do that"

<anne> all minus konquerer, which we never take into account

<Julian> also, I *do* plan to resolve this in the other implementations as well, but to do that, it would be helpful if the specs said the same thing

<Julian> ah, "we"

<Julian> Why not?

<anne> no market share?

<anne> there might be all kinds of obscure UAs out there that do not match the major implementations; but when it comes down to deciding what is likely important they are not all that reelvant

<anne> (minus typos)

<Julian> ok, so does Opera count? It appears to do the right thing for my test case.

<anne> we are changing our behavior

<anne> as I indicated

<anne> we have found encountered several problems with not doing charset matching like Firefox -- and it seems WebKit has found the same; just didn't make it into Safari quite yet

<anne> what would be interesting here is whether UAs handle quoted strings with escapes throughout HTTP

<anne> and is there a difference between <meta> and via HTTP headers

<anne> etc.

<Julian> I think you need to supply the data for that; the WG should have the chance to decide what's worse; overriding a base spec, or "breaking" content; to do that, we need more data

<Julian> yes

<anne> we don't need to provide anything

<Julian> aha

<anne> it's pretty clear that for us it makes more sense to match Firefox etc.

<Julian> I know that several UAs do not treat quoted strings properly (in HTTP), but the question is whether it can be fixed

<Julian> I'm sorry, but that's not convincing

<anne> you don't think that makes sense?

<Julian> no, what makes sense is to do what the spec says unless there's proof it can't be done

<anne> hahaha

<Julian> very helpful

<anne> yeah well, i could tell you stories about browser QA, but past experience (and this reply) suggests you will keep the same line of thinking

<pimpbot> bugmail: [Bug 10806] ignoring escapes is not needed for compatibility with existing content <11http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-bugzilla/2010Sep/1712.html> 4** [Bug 10642] No alternative text description for video key frame (poster) <11http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-bugzilla/2010Sep/1711.html> 4** [Bug 10805] treating single quotes as double quotes not needed for compatibility with existing content <11http://lists.w3

<Julian> MikeSmith, any news on the link relation type registrations? I haven't seen anything new for ~3 weeks or so...

I've had little time to follow up on it personally

<Julian> I would volunteer, but then I'd have to negotiate with myself :-)

<Julian> Maybe ask on public-html for volunteers?

<Julian> Henri, I've got a question on the HTML5 XSLT requirements

<Julian> 8http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#interactions-with-xpath-and-xslt)

<pimpbot> Title: HTML5 (at dev.w3.org)

<Julian> (http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#interactions-with-xpath-and-xslt)

<Julian> "This requirement is a willful violation of the XSLT 1.0 specification, required because this specification changes the namespaces and case-sensitivity rules of HTML in a manner that would otherwise be incompatible with DOM-based XSLT transformations. (Processors that serialize the output are unaffected.) [XSLT10]"

<Julian> the spec talks about outputting to a DOM, but XSLT 1.0 says that output method only applies when the tree is serialized...

<krisk> We now have 163 approved tests up from 138 since I last reported.

<krisk> I still expect to be over 200 approved tests when I report back on 10/14/2010

<krisk> Bug #10632 has been fixed, so we currently have zero bugs on approved tests

<krisk> Good discussion on more canvas tests all which have been updated by Philiptaylor per feedback from the group

<krisk> Only exception is http://test.w3.org/html/tests/submission/PhilipTaylor/canvas/2d.missingargs.html

<krisk> The test needs more consensus on the expected exception, current diff http://dvcs.w3.org/hg/html/rev/5b059ccfed28

<krisk> Video_008.htm and Video_006.htm have been updated and approved per feedback from Mozilla, Opera

<krisk> I plan extending the schedule for meetings, same time/etc

<krisk> I'll place the new dates on the wiki as well http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/Testing

<krisk> If you have feedback on the time, please send feedback to the list
