LDAC 2019 — Linked Data in Architecture and Construction Week — 17-21 June 2019

This year the LDAC Committee, with the support of the Linked Building Data Community, hosted the first Summer School of LDAC alongside the 7th LDAC Workshop, in a week-long programme hosted by the Design and Computation Group of the Faculty of Architecture – University of Lisbon. The event took place at the Beta-i Hub in Lisbon, between June 17-21, 2019.

The first Summer School of LDAC was dedicated to the application of semantic web, linked data and web of data technologies in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC). Considering the growing interest in these technologies from the AEC industry and research institutions, this Summer School provided a starting point for participants that are new to the topic entirely and the opportunity to enhance the understanding and overview of implementations and approaches in the built environment for participants that wished to deepen their knowledge in this field.

With a mixture of lectures, personal interactions with experts in the field, hands-on exercises and coding challenges, the Summer School gave participants the opportunity to explore the possibilities of the semantic web, linked data and web of data technologies for their own research and practice needs at their individual pace and depth.

An integral part of the summer school was the application and strengthening of newly learned knowledge from lectures in practical research work: The Coding Challenge. The goal was for participants, grouped in interdisciplinary teams, to address and define real-world problems. The coding challenge prize was generously sponsored by Stardog.

You can find the tutorials and some presentations at the Summer School’s GitHub page:

The 7th LDAC Workshop followed usual set up with keynotes by Ruben Verborgh and Ora Lassila, plenty plenary sessions dedicated to research in LBD, the technical track dedicated to W3C LBD Community Group content, and the industry track with presentations from LBD applications in companies from the AEC industry.
