Proposed Group: ARB – Accessibility Responsibility Breakdown Community Group

The ARB – Accessibility Responsibility Breakdown Community Group has been proposed:

WCAG 2.0 offers 61 success criteria, incorporating best practices for promoting accessible content to people with disabilities. These success criteria affect all phases of a Web site development project. Yet, they are usually considered to be the responsibility of developers only.

It is becoming increasingly known however that web accessibility, when taken into consideration at the end of a production lifecycle, often leads to process too late issues that should have been addressed before, without adequate means to do so.

To ensure the success of the project from a web accessibility standpoint and in order for proper decisions to be taken at the appropriate time, the responsibilities associated with these success criteria need to be assigned to the various stakeholders involved in the project.

This is especially true in the context of conformance obligations, if such obligations are in place in an organization. Therefore, this community aims to provide organizations with a strategy to successfully integrate web accessibility in the web development lifecycle.

You are invited to support the creation of this group. Once the group has a total of five supporters, W3C launch the group and people can join to begin work.
