From Education & Outreach

About this page

This page summarizes the survey results for the first review of the "People and Access Technology" teaching unit. This page is intended to support EOWG discussion, to further refine the work on WAI Curricula. This is not an exhaustive list of all comments received but a summary of some of the main issues.

Comments on question "Overall Structure"

  • Terminology:
    • Instructor vs Trainer/Teacher
    • Assistive Technology vs Access Technology
  • Resources:
    • Use of outdated resource "Better Web Browsing"
    • Use of other resources

Comments on question "Teaching Outline"

  • Universal design:
    • Universal design vs cross-disability needs vs broader benefits
    • Definition of "universal design" vs "inclusive design" (and "user-centered design")
    • How much to focus on "universal design" topic?
    • Potential overlap with "business case" topic?
  • Guidance:
    • What about instructors who do not meet the "prerequisite" requirements, can we provide more support?
    • More specific guidance on teaching approaches (eg. define tasks for "experiential" learning of AT)
    • Inter-linking sections, for example points in teaching outline with notes or with teaching material
    • More specific break-down of the suggested content and duration (eg. specific lessons/sub-units)
  • Avoid the medical model, or talks of medical conditions

Comments on question "Other Suggestions"

  • More specific break-down of the suggested content and duration (eg. specific lessons/sub-units) (addressed earlier)
  • Simpler language, clearer explanation, and better ties with the learning objectives

Comments on question "In Context"

  • Flow with business case? (addressed earlier)
  • Overlap of teaching materials across several topics
  • Numbering units to understanding their sequence

Comments on question "Anything Else?"

  • Grammar, spelling, and other fixes
  • Use headings (with expand/collapse function) rather than lists
