This specification defines several new DOM events that provide
information about the physical orientation and motion of a hosting
device.
Status of This Document
Beware. This specification is no longer in active maintenance and the Geolocation Working Group does not intend to maintain it further.
This section describes the status of this document at the
time of its publication. Other documents may supersede this
document. A list of current W3C publications and the
latest revision of this technical report can be found in the W3C technical reports

The Geolocation Working Group was
chartered
to define a secure and privacy-sensitive interface for using
client-side location information in location-aware Web applications.
The group published an update to the
Geolocation API specification as a Recommendation.
However, the work on the
DeviceOrientation
Event Specification did not complete due to unresolved issues
related to security and privacy.
We believe this work would benefit from increased participation and
alignment with the work of the
Device and Sensors Working Group.
As such, we are looking at getting the specification adopted by that
Working Group.
Further maintenance around the Geolocation documents is expected to
happen with the
Device and Sensors Working Group.
Publication as a Working Group Note does not imply endorsement by the
