APA Members' Spec Review Guide - intro and RFC

matatk The first public version of the Spec Review Guide is now available. This is a link in APA GitHub

matatk There are a lot of info inside, what to do when, what sort of things you need to consider when you do a review, etc. A big document but with all in one place. Basically, we would like any sort of feedback in the form of pull requests or issues for changes

janina Is it organised well enough that you could use it as a document? The help documentation you need when you are at some point in the process, what am I supposed to do now? Will you be able to find your way just to that information easily? "Those are the most important questions in my opinin"

matatk It is a really great solid foundation, just read them, we are happy to take any suggestion

Spec review requests

HTML in canvas; tracking the threads

<matatk> Continuing from last week: https://www.w3.org/2026/04/29-apa-minutes.html#8aab

matatk We did talk about canvas last week. just a quick update:

there is a lot of work going on on the HTML canvas. we come up with a list of threads what we need to track

matatk We have a list of things to keep on top of review wise. This is a lot of different issues that have come up, if anybody got any development any additional things, we should follow

chiaceI am happy to help on this

Issue tracking

Requirement to conform to WCAG Level A?

<matatk> source: w3c/epub-specs#2963

<matatk> tracking: w3c/a11y-tracking#313

matatk this is an issues originated in the epub repository and they are talking about conforance with wiki. There is a section in epub accessibility 1.2 documents. There is a requirement to workout 2.0 but recommanded that it meets the latest WCAG 2.

matatk the person who filed the issue says that requiring conformance to WCAG level A may create difficulties for adoption: like countries that use a11y standards that are similar to WCAG but not identical, like S Korea, Japan, China

<Fazio> important legal distinction by roy

Roy_Ruoxi I noticed this issue, but non clear, because "Should" and "Must" usually translate in same word in Chinese. He guess that it is not a problem for China standard at the moment

janinathis is an authorative issue like we should. we are not going to be changing laws. we can change our specs. so maybe we need to adjust either both WCAG or EPUB?

janina this is an authorative issue like we should. we are not going to be changing laws. we can change our specs. so maybe we need to adjust either both WCAG or EPUB?

janina and I think needs a use case that started the emerge out of our QTF in our conversations about AI where we say context really matter and sometimes it can be stricter

matatkthe law is not gonna change, he suspect the first thing to do is to figure out whether there is actually a problem, bacause if we find out that the laws that diverge are stricter than WCAG

matatk the law is not gonna change, he suspect the first thing to do is to figure out whether there is actually a problem, bacause if we find out that the laws that diverge are stricter than WCAG

janina very intresting situation

matatk the risk is though that if we loosent the requirement. we can take this and try to understand what the divergent is and then consider the impact

<JonCohn> I'd be willing to read it.

Fazio I remember that Makoto is always saying that Japan does not require standards because they've got their own standard

matatk we will look at the chinese one

[PROPOSAL] Exploring Generative UI

<matatk> source: w3c/webai#3

<matatk> tracking: w3c/a11y-tracking#299

matatk how AI is impacting the web platform and bring relevant people at the table.

Roy_Ruoxi an issue raised by chinese local member because they tried to explore to use AI agent to generate the UI: discussion + meetup that created the community group

<Roy_Ruoxi> https://www.w3.org/community/gen-ui/

Roy_Ruoxi gen ai community group and there are 2 that want to work on A11y things about gen UI , maybe invite to APA

<matatk> https://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~kgajos/research/supple/

matatk people talk about gen UI in academia from 20 years, Phone based or tablet UI framework do some

@matatk no need to worry about hallucinations. this kind of content helps. let 's going to try

janina the implication there is choose the right tool
