Brent: background - Kevin and
team working on redesign and revising text before the video
project
... worked on approach and formatting
... do you finish the stories then get videos to match or
finish the videos then revise the stories
... stopped the stories to finish videos first.
... 8 user stories 4 techniques 5 diverse abilities
17 approved by EO
<Brent> Shadi is working on updating the content of the resource pages to bring them into alignment with the videos. Thorough review surveys will be brought to the group as the pages are updated, starting with the User Stories pages.

Videos may have bits that are not in the story and the story may have discussion that is not in the video. They don't have to be exact.
scribe: good timeline to get this
done over the next months.
... once everything is through thorough review ... the resource
will also get edits and review.
... then release.
... we're not looking at navigation now.
... we're not reviewing the reviewing the video but looking at
it for comparison.
<Brent> Draft Example of video placement: https://deploy-preview-113--wai-people-use-web.netlify.app/people-use-web/user-stories-with-video/
Kevin: How to integrate the video
so they don't overwhelm the page but serve as an
introduction
... hyjacked the summary box
... increased the size of summary, removed the heading
... goal is to put the video in the page, problem... size of
the player
... when you click play captions and size are too small, so
we're linking to a modl
... able player
... alternatives, image will be inline with text
... potentially loose when the content is
... this is the direction we're exploring so looking for
feedback
<Brent> Perspective video example: https://www.w3.org/WAI/perspective-videos/keyboard/
Brent: here's the video ... if
you don't scroll down you may miss important content
... looking for feedback on approach
<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to note one way we did it in the past https://www.w3.org/WAI/planning/involving-users/
Shawn: another example of video
within the page content
... worked with Kevin on different options
... the link is above
<shawn> Shawn: happy to come up with better design
Daniel: I'm confused, the video is not loading. I was worried what happens when the video doesn't load. Needs to be clear wht's happening.
Kevin: the goal is that it'll be a link to the video
Shadi: What happens when you select the player?
<shawn> s... the link is above|https://www.w3.org/WAI/planning/involving-users/
Kevin: it'll open in a modal window with transcipt. The transcript could be challenging but doable.
Shadi: I don't remember why modal window is challenging.
Kevin: assumes that Able player can handle being in a modal window
Shadi: fine by me but not a UI
designer ... I don't know who uses transcripts ... Do you need
to start the player to get to the transcript.
... sharron likes to read transcript not watch... need to link
separately to transcipt
<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to say -1 for transcript not on main page
Shawn: I would recommend having the transcript link on the main page.
Kevin: yes - we need to think how it's handled in other places. It's part of the Able player
Shawn: we need to get to the transcript independently
<shawn> Larua: Agree with Shawn that separate transcript. We provide link that people can download.Agree with Kevin that we want to be consistent.
Kevin: I agree. How to access the transcript is important. As a pattern, check other videos on how to provide transcripts.
Brian: support the idea... small
thumb and the video opens in a modal window.
... there's an example on the involving users page.
... if we can link to the transcript on the main page.
<shawn> example of expandable transcript under video: https://www.w3.org/WAI/planning/involving-users/
Brian: not a bad solution to take the user to the transcript without opening the modal.
<shawn> example of transcipt at the bottom of the page: https://www.w3.org/WAI/perspective-videos/customizable/#transcript
Michelle: Able player as a modal
- does the player resize well?
... I have to scroll
... how will it work on mobile?
<shawn> Laura: can be contrlled by CSS
<shawn> scribe+ shawn
Kevin: taking a modal approach ... you can take over the entire screen
<Zakim> shadi, you wanted to speak to difference in perspectives vs other
Kevin: It'll be something we pay attention to.
Shadi: not a don't do... but make
sure we pay attention to all of the UI issues
... the other ... the perspective videos were the main
content.
... not table of contents
... other pages the thought was that the content was the focus
and the videos were supporting.
... third approach where the videos and content are tied
together.
<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to note that can do full screen as is
Shadi: more modern approach to update other videos behaviors
Shawn: the current implementation has full screen option.
Brent: do people like thumb to open modal in the summary?
Shawn: people are open to a better design pattern and need exploration to see what works.
Kevin: we can always come back to
embedding the video on the page
... is it worth experimenting and getting feedback for opening
the videos in a modal window.
... where's the transcript is a valid issue that will be
explored.
... and reviewed.
Brent: will take feedback and
continue to explore. There be a survey released on a Friday
with two full weekends to respond.
... or earlier if possible.
... any other questions?
Topics: Easy Checks next generation
Kevin: where we are - small
team
... design mockups and usability testing
... Andrew subject matter expert - writing main content
... Kevin overseeing - initial mockup
... using design patterns from WAI website
<shawn> links to Easy Checks work is list under "Current Work" in https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_Current_Projects#2018_Current_Work
Kevin: what could we check? What
is susceptible to easing checking
... working up checks that are viable to prioritize
... next steps
... bring the wireframe to show possible structure
... other thing - impromptu usability testing at AccessU
... that's where we are now
Brent: questions?
... leads into next topic
Brent: AccessU and TPAC links to
survey
... when will people be available remotely
... more input from the wider group
... AccessU on May 9
... TPAC September times during the week
... answer survey as quickly as possible
... AccessU in Austin May 9-12
... decided there'll be activities be planned
Shawn: high level plans haven't changed.
<shawn> https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_F2F_May_2023
Shawn: Tuesday is full day work
session
... specifc delivarables
... Wednesday -plenary session after lunch
... had a room with computers for usability testing.
... hopefully waiting for confirmation from Sharron.
... take a look at draft description for plenary session. Any
input?
<shawn> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_4C02LfgpNAe_E_aqCyVPrEpOPG7W6mi7ZtG4Kc2GWo/edit
<scribe> done.
<BrianE> done
Brian: fine with it.
Brent: I like the idea. Curious
about the interactivity. I've seen you do some where you get
the audience interacting ... it that the type you're
thinking?
... or are they at a computer?
Shawn: love to get input to get
more interactive.
... some will have laptops some won't.
... fun or seeded questions from the audience.
... I have some initial brainstorms and get some input from
others.
... introduction to our room
... usability testing on easy checks and getting input for
users. We're hanging out in this room come talk to us.
... invitation for further 1 on 1 for attendees.
Brent: could ask audience members
to give an example, what their role is and what they want to
accomplish or what they struggle with.
... people see the site ... for their specific issue they don't
know where to start.
... how there are different resources for their specific
role.
Michelle: Is anything
missing?
... is there a gap in our current resources to address their
issues.
Shawn: Audience size potentially couple hundred attendees
Brian: gamification - what can
you find on the WAI site?
... mostly virtual training ... interactivity is harder.
Shawn: Let's keep brainstorming
Brent: scavenger hunt. 5
questions - find answers/resource gave out prizes to first 5
people - got people to hunt through the site.
... response was surprise on the scope of the resources
Shawn: anything else to discuss or input? It will be hybid
Brent: please answer the survey
on the times for working meeting on Tuesday.
... any other comments on face to face meetings?
<shawn> Laura: LoC.gov major redesign
<shawn> ... motivated by accessibility. existing!
<shawn> https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_Meetings#Work_for_this_week
Shawn: open surveys
anything else will be added.
