Meeting minutes

Minutes Review

review Oct 19 minutes

kaz: would also be useful to review Oct 27 and Oct 28 minutes from the F2F

<kaz> https://www.w3.org/2021/10/27-wot-minutes.html

<kaz> https://www.w3.org/2021/10/28-wot-minutes.html

<kaz> Oct-19

ege: (reviews Oct 19 minutes)

ege: PRs, explainer video still, logos on repos (asking Coralie), tooling/process to update calendar
… regarding calendars, if someone new joins they don't get the invites automatically

ege: (reviews F2F minutes)

<kaz> Oct-27

ege: for Oct 27, look at marketing session
… agreed on splitting marketing call, discussed change in moderator
… review of stats from twitter, etc
… but discussion of how to resolve lack of stats from web page visits

ege: reviews oct 28 minutes

<kaz> Oct-28

ege: how to communicate better with people outside IG/WG
… reviewed tools used by other organizations
… Lagally proposed adding email, cristiano proposed reddit
… Ege updated the slides to include these
… (see wot/PRESENTATIONS)

ege: any objections to any of these?
… no objections, all approved

Chair Change

proposal: Change the chair of Marketing TF from Fady Salama to Ege Korkan

kaz: so why?

ege: needed someone for testing; fady is more technical now, so

kaz: note that both are technically representing Siemens

Resolution: Change the chair of Marketing TF from Fady Salama to Ege Korkan (tentative; to be confirmed in main call)

PRs

wot repo PR 1004

ege: see PR1004

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot/pull/1004/files

ege: in wot repo, updates to presentation, to fix names and update marketing slides
… (merged)

ege: in wot-marketing, have several more PRs

PR 212

ege: PR 212
… remove links when there is no detail page to avoid 404 errors

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/pull/212

mm: what we really should do is create detail pages, but this is ok for now

ege: ok, merging

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/208

ege: closes issue 208

PR 213 and Issue 209

eg: now PR213
… fixing DR's contact info with a proper link

ege: merged

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/209

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/pull/213

ege: closing isse 209

PR 214 and Issue 210

ege: PR 214, but TDD implementations in a different section

mm: concur, good idea

ege: merging

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/pull/214

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/210

ege: closing issue 210

PR 215

ege: PR215
… daniel changed nav bar, WG/IG/CG titles only make sense to W3C, also long
… changed to put WG, IG, CG under "Standards"

mm: reorg is fine, but we should discuss the name "Standards", sounds like it links to documents
… perhaps should be "Groups"

kaz: maybe put CG under there too

kaz: Activities is also a problem, sounds like an event, but currently links to TFs

mm: agree, TFs should probably be linked from WG pages, etc.
… Activities -> Events would be clearer also

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/216

ege: creates issue 216 with these considerations

ege: let

ege: let's postpone this PR until we make those updates

Issue 211

ege: another issue is explainer video did not link to the player without refreshing the page
… was an actual problem with streamfizz platform, fixed

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/211

ege: issue 211, now fixed, can be closed

issue 206

ege: issue 206,twitter, if go to profile, empty background
… what image can we put here?
… did a little poll for some images
… need something wide, if square gets cropped in an annoying way

mm: since there are new images, and cropping is needed, so we probably should redo the poll

ege: ok, let's try them all now
… going to do another poll, see following issue

<Ege> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/206

Issue 203

<kaz> [website] Possible restructuring of website #203

ege: issue 203, restructuring of website; still need to fix nav bar

Issue 190

<kaz> WoT logo on repository READMEs

ege: issue 190
… wot logo on repo READMEs
… Coralie asked what href to use for it...

mm: would be nice to link to the main web site

ege: have to decide on alignment
… also, I think the aligned version is a little small, and if it's going to be small we should drop the text

mm: normally I prefer aligned, but it has to be big to be readable, and if it's big centered makes more sense

pb: I do like the larger centered one

kaz: have a little different opinion, not excited about logo; even W3C logo is not very big on those pages
… sometimes people use smartphones to access pages, large logos are a nuisance
… small logo would be better, if small characters are a problem, can use logo without text

ege: if used with phone, have to click to open
… and readmes mostly useless for many people

<kaz> e.g., W3C top page

<kaz> and the WoT Welcome page

mm: should look at phone, see if there are controls we can use, and also create an official logo without text if we want to make it small

mm: another option is to make it large and wide, drop the text; then on phone, will be full width, but easy to scroll past
… or move the text to the right, rather than top and bottom

ege: don't think it will look good on mobile

mm: suggest we prototype

<kaz> [adjourned]
