Meeting minutes

Minutes review

<kaz> July-20|https://www.w3.org/2021/07/20-wot-marketing-minutes.html

Sebastian: Last time, I wasn't able to be part of the meeting. Thanks, Daniel for taking care.

Sebastian: Did you merge some PRs?

Daniel: Yes, we merged the one from Ege, I think.

Sebastian: You also discussed the social media icons.

McCool: All README.md have the social media links. Please tell me, if one is missing.

Daniel: The marketing README.md one is missing.

McCool: Going to fix it.

Sebastian: Any objections?
… no objections.

Summer break

Sebastian: Should we make clear on the marketing page that we are on a summer break?

McCool: Yes, we should mention it.

McCool: Under events we should mentioned the cancelations.

Sebastian: Daniel, can you take that action?

Daniel: I wonder where to put it.

McCool: If people join over the website, we should have it there as well.

Daniel: That is fine for me. We can link to the Wiki.

McCool: Yes, that is fine. Add a link to the Wikipage, that people should check first.

Daniel: Doesn't it belong to the webConf section?

McCool: You are right. In bold.

<dape> https://www.w3.org/WoT/IG/wiki/Main_WoT_WebConf#Cancellations

Sebastian: Do you need an issue for it?

Daniel: No, I noted it down.

Liason webpage

Sebastian: Kaz, what is the status of the eClass Liaison? Is it updated?

Kaz: I'll check with Coralie again.

Web analytics

Sebastian: Daniel, do you have any news on this?

Daniel: Yes, I think the admin has to create a space for us. They are getting back to us when they have an update on this.

PRs

Sebastian: Do we have a section for commercial application?

Daniel: Not at the moment. Since we don't have much, I feel like we should just add it to the list.

PR 191

Sebastian: Any objections to add it to the list?
… no objections.

PR 89

Sebastian: It's an old one, right? No news, right?

McCool: I updated the PR, I think.

McCool: We would like to have tutorials etc.

Sebastian: So, we keep it open until they get back to us?

McCool: Yes.

McCool: It mostly applies to tutorials, so that people can just use it without asking for it.

Sebastian: Okay, let's just keep it here for now.

McCool: Do we want to make the marketing call to a WG/CG call? Kaz, what do you think?

Kaz: The WoT CG is not really active.

McCool: But if we make it a CG and have that license, it makes it easier for people to contribute.

Kaz: That is an interesting question. Especially for the Japanese CG. Also maybe it might be better to find a more active Chair for the original WoT CG.

McCool: We can have the japanese cg as task force in the cg.

Kaz: Yes, we should talk to the japanese cg about this.

Kaz: We should also think about what to do in the IG and CG.

McCool: I mainly think for the CG about tutorials etc.

Sebastian: I understand the motivation for it. I am under the impression we have so many groups. It's a lot.

McCool: I personally think we need to recharter first. Let's keep an eye on this. We can invite people as guests to the IG/WG.

Kaz: Everyone should be clear what group works on what.

McCool: Right now we recharter the IG. If we reboot the CG, we probably want to move the tutorials etc. to the CG.

Cristiano: I like the idea to open the contribution. The guest mechanism isn't good, if we grow enough. We can wait until the next charter. That makes sense.

Sebastian: I would like to have a german CG as well. There are some industry companies interested in it. I will make a proposal for it.

Kaz: I am fine with having another CG, as long as they follow the charter.

Kaz: We should just make clear who is working on what. I agree with ca, we can wait for now to figure out the responsibilites.

Sebastian: Ege is looking for a student, which makes a nice video. I don't know what the current status is on this.

McCool: I think we have two issues. 1. Appropriate code and documentation and 2. the second one is about the video.

McCool: Universe course is probably different than a Youtube video.

Sebastian: I can't comment on this. We have to ask Ege.

Sebastian: I have an update. Philipp and I had a call with a Youtuber. His name is Shawn. We contacted him, since he did some WoT things in the past.

Sebastian: It was based on WebThings, not the W3C standard. Unfortantelty, he doesn't have time for making a video this time.

Sebastian: He mentioned that we probably should make an Arduino library. So, Philipp is going to migrate the WebThings Arduino library.

<Mizushima> https://github.com/WebThingsIO/webthing-arduino

Kaz: I am skeptical. We should be careful about their contributions. If that is a paid contribution that is a very different approach from the normal W3C process.

Philipp: Would it be fine, if we have an external source and the WG just decides to embrace it?

Kaz: Yes, that's a possibility. I would just be careful about the procedure.

Sebastian: I don't think that is part of the W3C. This is something outside of the W3C. Just some members also doing things outside of the WG.
