LS: Next timeline item is July 26 - freeze working draft on gap analysis, issue papers
EA: Taking John's advice taking
into account the audience. Chaohai and EA have done some
research.
... Cross-checking symbols to make a list that makes sense
based on research and their own work.
... Would not like to call this a solution but a way forward, a
strategy, towards a solution
<slim> HI. Sorry I'm late
EA: An updated version could be available in 2 weeks.
LS: We should call this a proposed solution, and add or change techniques when they are fully ready.
Steve: Has more work to do on his
draft before Mary Jo reviews it.
... will work on updates this week.

LS: Personalization group update
Steve: Personalization, gathering
user preferences & syntax are closely related.
... It makes more sense to group these into a single issue
paper, perhaps with separate sections.
<ea> +1
Steve: GPII is the only group
working on preferences, on a format for recording
preferences.
... There is also an ISO standard that GPII references.
... We need to keep an eye on GPII, yet continue our work and
make sure the two are harmonized
LS: GPII doesn't have the
semantics defined yet, but do have an architecture
developed.
... GPII will handle the portability of the preferences.
Steve: Sensible adaptations based on settings. Those settings we'd work with GPII to ensure they can be generated when needed.
LS: We haven't addressed all
types of content that might need adaptation. For example, the
enabling of using replacement components isn't included.
... We also haven't addressed the notation for help, such as
levels of help.
... Level of language also would need to be included in the
issue paper on help.
EA: Short sentence length, a couple of symbols, very basic help statements is an example.

LS: Above is link to a media player for people with cognitive disabilities - an alternative to other media players to override the media player being used on a web page.
<Lisa_Seeman> ACTION: Lisa update easy personiltion with the need for nabling the use to replace widgets/ components like video player, whilst keeping the content the same. This will enable a player to be loaded that the user understands how to work. idealy this should work with [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/06/29-coga-minutes.html#action01]
<Lisa_Seeman> mavis or Brian (new projects https://github.com/OpenDirective/brian)within our Json notation. This needs to include player settings such as different levels of complexity.
<Lisa_Seeman> We also need to address graded help for json and different language abilities, complexity and symbols
<trackbot> Created ACTION-118 - Update easy personiltion with the need for nabling the use to replace widgets/ components like video player, whilst keeping the content the same. this will enable a player to be loaded that the user understands how to work. idealy this should work with [on Lisa Seeman - due 2015-07-06].
<Lisa_Seeman> also what symbols - for older people, real picture, for others - symbols
<Lisa_Seeman> ACTION: Steve talk to Lisa about graded help and difrent langguae abilities, complexity and symbols , sometimes you want full symbols, somtimes part symbols and for older people pictures [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/06/29-coga-minutes.html#action02]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-119 - Talk to lisa about graded help and difrent langguae abilities, complexity and symbols , sometimes you want full symbols, somtimes part symbols and for older people pictures [on Steve Lee - due 2015-07-06].
LS: Need to determine guidance
and potentially suggestions on what symbols should go into
graded help
... Will need semantics to go along with the various levels of
language and symbols used in help.
EA: Some users may need
photographic images, some need simplistic drawings, etc.
... This is part of personalization and help.
LS: We can associate this with the understandability principle in WCAG.
EA: Measuring success is also difficult.
<Lisa_Seeman> ACTION: Lisa send to EA and the write wiki page difrent types of symbols and lanuae support [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2015/06/29-coga-minutes.html#action03]
<trackbot> Created ACTION-120 - Send to ea and the write wiki page difrent types of symbols and lanuae support [on Lisa Seeman - due 2015-07-06].

LS: Did a quick review of
techniques we have.
... Looking to where we can fit things into WCAG. See results
using link above.

<Lisa_Seeman> https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-cognitive-a11y-tf/2015Jun/0044.html
LS: We don't have a good fit for the techniques under specific WCAG success criteria. They fit well under the principles, but not a good fit for the SC.
RS: We should handle this under
an extension specification instead of modifying existing
WCAG/
... If there are media queries, a preference system, etc. and
figure out how those result in different implementation or
presentation of the UI.
... A 3rd party AT isn't always going to be the one adapting
the content. Sometimes it is in the application itself. This is
a fundamental change - applications have to be adaptable to
particular user preferences.
LS: The plan is to write an extension spec to WCAG.
