How People with Disability Use the Web

http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/Overview.html

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/scenarios.html

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/scenarios.html#shopper

Shadi: text has been updated (de-jargonized)

alan: an image would nice

shadi: for some scenarios it will be difficult to find images
... for the future videos would be very nice

<Andrew> william: good to have scenarios that don't include people for whom the web is work

<Andrew> ... and second scenario is just work oriented

<shadi> ACTION: pwd-use-web - shadi - look at past/present tense in scenarios [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/02/24-waiage-minutes.html#action01]

Suzette: no indication how to change colors in browsers

michael: link to further reading about browser settings

<Andrew> Alan: and link to Better Web Browsing document

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/browsing#altkeyboard

shadi: we have to update and extend the Better Web Browsing document

<shadi> ACTION: pwd-use-web - shadi - consider "further reading" or similar rather than "sections" (sounds abstract) [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/02/24-waiage-minutes.html#action02]

<shadi> aa: "related reading"?

<Andrew> william: the average person would be daunted by the things described for Mr Jones
... we're making light of the fact there is quite a bit of work to do - speech recognition + new authoring tool
... scenario makes it seem like a routine thing to do (regardless that it took several months to adapt)

<Andrew> suzette: several adaptations to take in - can we make a list, then say it takes a while to learn

<shadi> ACTION: pwd-use-web - shadi - may want to highlight that CMSs *can* be made keyboard accessible [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/02/24-waiage-minutes.html#action03]

<suzette> He uses a combination of technical changes and work-arounds:
... • speech recognition software
... • uses a web browser with full keyboard support that allows him to navigate through websites that are properly coded using the keyboard alone
... • an alternative keyboard with an ergonomic layout
... • he doesn't use a mouse.

<shadi> ACTION: pwd-use-web - shadi - scenario 2 may sound a little too positive (speech recognition as a "magic wand" and CMS workaround not always feasible) [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/02/24-waiage-minutes.html#action04]

<achuter> maybe "dictation software" in addition to or as alternative to "speech recognition"

<shadi> ACTION: pwd-use-web - shadi - scenario 2 - consider listing the changes and browsing methods that mr jones is using [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/02/24-waiage-minutes.html#action05]

<achuter> "dictation" is narrower in scope than "speech recognition" but easier to understand. It's difficult to explain briefly how speech recognition is used for navigating, but with a narrower scope, "dictation" is easier to understand for most readers as many people without disabilities have used it.

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/#reporter

Michael: maybe split up the paragraph "unfortunately ..." into 3 parts: ...
... * what is the problem with the cms,
... * how could that be solved (by a proper CMS) and
... * the actual workaround he is using

Web Accessibility Training

http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/training/2009/scenarios.html

<Andrew> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/training/2009/scenarios-tf.html

Michael: prefers format 2

William: prefers format 6

Suzette: prefers tabular version, e.g. 3

Shadi: prefers format 2, but can live with format 3
... the timeline might be confusing
... duration rather than timing

Andrew: best to continue work with format 2 and 3

<achuter> format 2

michael: format 2

<Andrew> william: format 2

<Andrew> shadi: 2

<Andrew> suzette: 3, but could live with 2

<suzette> suzette: asked about screen reader users

<suzette> shadi: structure should be presented

<Andrew> shadi: represent Format 2 structure with a DL or with H4s

<Andrew> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/training/2009/scenarios.html

Andrew: will be restructured in one of those formats later on

<Andrew> Andrew: consider Eg1

Suzette: very ambitious for 20 min

<Andrew> william: can't do BAD in 3 mins

Michael: i would skip #6

<Andrew> michael: would drop 6 (resources)

Shadi: would not present the Demo in a short introduction
... would take too much time

Outline should be following the three bullets of "The audience will ..."
