1. Review proposal for "set of documents (non-web)" definition

The 2013 WCAG2ICT definition of "set of documents (non-web)" needs to be brought into alignment with WCAG's updated definition for "set of Web pages". Review the proposed update and indicate its readiness to incorporate into the editor's draft. If you want to read the proposal in-context, see "set of documents (non-web)" in the netlify build of pull request 191.

set of documents (non-web) (as used in WCAG2ICT)

collection of [non-web documents] that share a common purpose and that are created by the same author, group or organization [where the documents are published together and all refer to each other by name or link]

NOTE Republishing or bundling previously published documents as a collection does not constitute a set of documents.

NOTE If a set is broken apart, the individual parts are no longer part of a set, and would be evaluated as any other individual document is evaluated.

Example: One example of a set of documents would be a three-part report where each part is a separate file. The table of contents is repeated at the beginning of each file to enable navigation to the other parts.

2. Review proposed update to "set of software programs" definition

The 2013 WCAG2ICT definition of "set of software programs" needs to be brought into alignment with WCAG's updated definition for "set of Web pages". This proposal updates both the definition text and the first note from the 2013 WCAG2ICT document. The rest of the notes would remain exactly the same, so they weren't included below. Review the proposal for the update to "set of software programs" and indicate its readiness to incorporate into the editor's draft.

If you want to read the proposal in-context, see the "set of software programs" in the netlify build of pull request 191.

set of software programs (as used in WCAG2ICT)

collection of [software programs] that share a common purpose, are created by the same author, group or organization [and that are distributed together and can be launched and used independently from each other, but are interlinked each with every other one such that users can navigate from one program to another via a consistent method that appears in each member of the set]

NOTE Although such sets occur frequently for web pages, they appear to be extremely rare for software.

3. Review proposed update to "set of Web pages" in Comments on Definitions section

The 2013 WCAG2ICT "Guidance When Applying "set of Web pages" to Non-Web Documents and Software" needed some updates to refer to the Key Terms section. Review the proposal for the update below and indicate its readiness to incorporate into the editor's draft.

If you want to read the proposal in-context, see the "set of Web pages" in the netlify build of pull request 191.

See the guidance on set of documents and set of software programs in the Key Terms section.

NOTE For those success criteria that use the term “set of web pages” explicitly or implicitly (2.4.1, 2.4.5, 3.2.3, and 3.2.4) WCAG2ICT provides specific replacement term(s) for “set of Web pages”.

Responder Review proposed update to "set of Web pages" in Comments on Definitions sectionComments
Gregg Vanderheiden Something else. Please suggest alternative content. Since we provide a definition of "set of documents" and "set of software programs" I don't see why we don't just say

"For provisions that say "set of web pages" simply substitute "set of documents" and "set of software programs" when applying this to (non-web) documents and software programs respectively"
OR if we are including non-web
"For provisions that say "set of web pages" simply substitute "set of non-web documents" and "set of non-web software programs" when applying this to (non-web) documents and software programs respectively"
Since that is what we do. the text above says we provide specific replacements - but according to the pull requests -- they are all treated the same and can be described with the simple sentence above.
Am I missing something?

PS 2.,4.5 needs to be fixed. currently the link for set of non-web documents is VISUALLY split into "set of" and "non-web documents " as if they were two links but they go to the same place Ditto for 3.2.3 and 3.2.4 (Global search and replace problem?)

Apologies - I have a mega-grant proposal due and only 30 days to write it start to end.
Thorsten Katzmann Accept the draft update to Comments on Definitions, as-is.
Loïc Martínez Normand Accept the draft update to Comments on Definitions, with changes. Based on the idea of Gregg's comment, I'm proposing a small change to the note so that the replacement terms are shown directly:

NOTE For those success criteria that use the term “set of web pages” explicitly or implicitly (2.4.1, 2.4.5, 3.2.3, and 3.2.4) WCAG2ICT provides specific replacement terms: "set of documents (non-web)" and "set of software programs".
Mary Jo Mueller Accept the draft update to Comments on Definitions, with changes. Gregg does has a valid point about the formatting of the links looking like there are two links (one for "set of" and one for "non-web documents" or "software programs"). The issue is that the new W3C formatting for inserted text "non-web documents" or "software programs" adds a dotted line, so it merges with the link gray underline so it looks like there are two links visually. Programmatically it is actually one link. The programming is the same in the new document as it was originally in the 2013 WCAG2ICT, both in the text about the word substitutions and the links contained in 2.4.5, 3.2.3, and 3.2.4, so this wasn't a global search/replace problem. It was a problem in the change in formatting of "INS" text in the CSS that adds a dotted underline. I'm happy to change the word replacements so that it's clearer that "set of non-web documents" is clearly a link, and have made that change in the PR.

The note in the WCAG2ICT guidance on applying "set of Web pages" to non-web documents and software section is the same exact text that existed in the 2013 WCAG2ICT - quoted here: "Note: For those success criteria that use the term “set of web pages” explicitly or implicitly (2.4.1, 2.4.5, 3.2.3, and 3.2.4) WCAG2ICT provides specific replacement term(s) for “set of Web pages”.

Editing Gregg's proposed change to be more accurate for the substitutions the document makes and for the fact that 2.4.1 uses "multiple Web pages" where WCAG2ICT brings in "set of...". If we feel a need to change the note, perhaps this would work: For success criteria that use the term "set of web pages", either explicitly or implicitly (2.4.1, 2.4.5, 3.2.3, and 3.2.4), simply substitute "set of non-web documents" and "set of non-web software programs" when applying this to non-web technologies.
Mike Pluke Accept the draft update to Comments on Definitions, with changes. Mary Jo’s proposal at the end of her comment would be my preference.
Bruce Bailey Accept the draft update to Comments on Definitions, as-is.
