Jason White | I don't want to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft - and here's why | Given that implementing the target size requirements without any exception seems highly desirable in Web sites that can achieve it, I think there should be a Level AAA criterion that advises authors to do so when they can, and which gives them credit (in terms of more advanced conformance) if they accomplish it. That's the purpose of Level AAA, which is explicitly designed not to be required of all Web sites. |
Stephen Repsher | I'm very happy to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. | technique is my prime objection. Since not relying on that technique results in the need for 44px lines in blocks of text with links, I think we need to drop it or add an exception. The negative margin |
Bruce Bailey | I don't want to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft - and here's why | I'm very happy to accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. However, I don't want to drop Target Size/No exception AAA. I do not see any harm with keeping a No Exceptions version at AAA. |
Detlev Fischer | I've a better idea and its.. | Choosing "I have a better idea" for want of a more appropriate option. In addressing Greggs concern that applied to long lists of links the requirement of 44px hight will mean that usability may suffer since users would need to scroll sooner to reach items way down the list, I had proposed relaxing the vertical size requirement for lists of targets (or vertically stacked groups of links) to 22px. That exception is currently not included in the linked draft text for this SC. One way to put the exception would be lists: Targets in lists are at least 22 x 44 pixels It seems difficult to find a good wording that will not exempt ALL groups of links, i.e., not just vertically stacked submenus but also horizontally arranged navigation menus marked up as list - maybe this can be prevented by using the term 'stacked'. lists: targets in stacked lists are at least 22 x 44 pixels There may be a better way to express this. David has the less specific suggestion of 'groups of links' but authors may think this also applies to horizontal menus. I am also not sure whether the concept of stacked links would apply to text that is written top-to-bottom (i8n concerns) - is there horizontal stacking in the wild? |

Makoto Ueki | I'm very happy to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. | |
Michael Cooper | I don't want to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft - and here's why | I'll live with dropping it but I don't see the need, I think it's valuable to have some AAA floating around to indicate needs. |
Michael Elledge | I'm very happy to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. | It seems like implementation without exception would cause lots of readability problems. Let's not add it unless/until we have techniques to resolve them. |
Michael Gower | I'm very happy to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. | Don't we want to have a definition of "pointer inputs" |
David MacDonald | I've a better idea and its.. | It needs an exception for groups of links. This came out of the Mobile TF and has morphed to desktop because we couldn't find any ways to distinguish the type of pointer used (course/fine), and using page size to distinguish failed also. The 44px that we are using from Apple is for MOBILE interfaces on iOS. I could live with it with exceptions for groups of links (22px high, maybe 44px wide). I'm still worried that it will impact visual design so much that the stakeholders just won't follow WCAG 21. But I'm willing to go public with 22px for groups of links. People with dexterity problems generally need a 100px target. So at 44px it's not going to solve the majority of those barriers. There is a fallback for people with dexterity disabilities that all functionality be accessible via keyboard. |
Alex Li | I've a better idea and its.. | Is it more important to address space between target? I think it is fine to keep the AAA in theory. But we should still decide whether it is better to address space between target vs target size. |
Kim Dirks | I don't want to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft - and here's why | The AAA SC is fine |
John Foliot | I'm very happy to drop Target Size/No exception AAA and accept Target Size AA into the editors draft. |
