- Description:
Safari Webkit is experimenting with a 'background-clip: text', which clips a background image to the area of the text of an element (including its shadow and decoration). This is a way to create text that is painted with a pattern or a gradient. It requires that the color of the text is transparent or semi-transparent. See http://webkit.org/blog/164/background-clip-text/ There may be better ways to do this, e.g., as a value on the 'color' property. See Dave Hyatt's comments on his own proposal: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2008Apr/0066.html See also “Specifying paint” in SVG 1.1: http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-SVG11-20030114/painting.html#SpecifyingPaint
