ISSUE-12

position rect()

Position and tile an image only in a certain area of the element

State:
CLOSED
Product:
CSS3 Backgrounds and Borders
Raised by:

Opened on:

Description:
Kelly Miller (see http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2005Aug/0030.html) suggested allowing 'rect()' and 'inset-rect()' in 'background-position' to specify a region of the element in which to tile a certain image.

Bert thinks this is going too far for CSS and would rather this were tackled in the image format (an SVG extension with non-linear scaling?). Elika thinks it might possibly go into 'background-origin' instead, but not into 'background-position'. See http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-css-wg/2008JanMar/0153.html
