When I wrote the mojikumi engine in InDesign, and we did some research into what Korean required, we found several things:

4) Vertical text being so prominent in the spec is a bit odd to me, given almost no examples in modern publishing that I have seen, at least. Interesting, though -- I liked looking through the vertical newspaper examples for similarities with Japanese typographic practices. Most modern text seems to have been infected with Word's Latin-centric approach. This is why I would really like experts to weigh in on what we should make the software do, rather than simply follow our bad first attempts!
