<scribe> Scribe: Olivier

<chrislowis> Zakim: ??P2 is me

<Alistair> :)

<chrislowis> heh

<chrislowis> One day I'll learn!

<Alistair> Olivier, you with us today?

yup, getting ready

<gcardoso> thanks

<chrislowis> olivier: want me to scribe?

Proposed use case: metronome

chrislowis: nah, that's ok for today

<chrislowis> olivier: cool.

Alistair: there's been quite a lot of discussion on this on the list

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-audio/2012JanMar/0405.html

<roc> passcode not working :-(

Al: what Joe mentioned is that there would be a need to sync input and output in a frame-accurate manner
... many ways to do beat detection

<tmichel> pass code is audio#

Al: is "automatically analyse" may be too much?

Olivier: wrote the UC in terms of what could be done, not necessarily what the API could do

Thierry: looked at your proposal

… I think it's good

… not trying to add use cases if they are not useful, but I think this is a nice UC which anyone can understand

… comes from a real use case from a discussion with my daughter

… happy that we are merging with UC-13

Al: agree it has appeal to musicians, not just audio professionals

Olivier: trying to keep the use cases doc short because I'd like us to document how our APIs will satisfy the use cases

Doug: are we really working for performance musician?

CLowis: with upcoming web-based operating systems, and likewise on smartphones, there are tons of such musician-focused applications

… not browser as an instrument but as a platform to help musicians

Olivier: agree with Chris - and I've also seen smartphones used as performance instruments
... if everyone happy with it I will add that text to UC-13

ISSUE-4: setting sample rates for individual JavaScriptProcessingNodes

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-audio/2012JanMar/0393.html

Olivier: is this related? (I can't quite understand it)

Al: yes it is related

… Grant has been making game emulators with sounds, very impressive

… he's making interesting arguments about performance

… the gist of what he is suggesting is that the Web Audio API does not provide him with the tools he needs for this application

… might be good to get Grant on a call

Doug: could be good to get more info about what he needs

… be clearer than the current e-mail

Followup on UC-15, Video with multiple audio tracks

http://www.w3.org/2011/audio/wiki/Use_Cases_and_Requirements#UC-15:_Video_commentary

Olivier: do we need to explicitely add as a requirement the need to capture audio from a video stream?

<tmichel> I beleive UC 15 is a new UC introducing use of audio from a video. Not yet introduces in other UC

Al: I thought we might have had it from the other use cases

<Alistair> http://www.w3.org/2011/audio/wiki/Use_Cases_and_Requirements#UC-12:_Soundtrack_and_sound_effects_in_a_video_editing_tool

<tmichel> I think we should keep this UC 15

Al: already captured in UC 12?

ROC: what is not captured in UC-12 is the need to stay in sync with the video

<tmichel> right.

… and the ducking effect is interesting because it is very common

Al: so do we want to merge this with UC-12 or have a different one

ROC: would seem artificial to merge the two

Olivier: I think it makes sense to add a requirement to add effects to the audio part of a video stream, and keep it in sync with the video playback

… that requirement would match UC-15 and UC-1

<scribe> ACTION: olivier to add new requirement to "add effects to the audio part of a video stream, and keep it in sync with the video playback" [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/03/19-audio-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-38 - Add new requirement to "add effects to the audio part of a video stream, and keep it in sync with the video playback" [on Olivier Thereaux - due 2012-03-26].

Al: as an aside, have been contacting companies doing HTML5 gaming. One of them reviewed the specs - am in the process of encouraging them to send that feedback to the group

New WD of Web Audio API published

http://www.w3.org/TR/webaudio/

(re-published as WD)

Thierry: we've complied with a rule which makes sure we update our spec to show progress

Olivier: next big chunk of work on this spec will be to make sure we solve dependencies with other groups

Thierry: we should contact at least the HTML group and WebRTC group to tell them about this new WD

Olivier: volunteers to contact those groups?

<scribe> ACTION: Doug to contact HTML, WebRTC and webapps group, point to new WD of Web Audio API [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/03/19-audio-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-39 - Contact HTML, WebRTC and webapps group, point to new WD of Web Audio API [on Doug Schepers - due 2012-03-26].

<Alistair> zakin, take up agendum 4

Discuss/document Issue: Pausing a subgraph

Olivier: would like to know if this is an issue or "just a conversation"

CRogers: we discussed this a while ago

… seems like Jussi said he was OK with it

… would be good to make sure he's ok with it and move on

Olivier: will ask Jussi and we can record the resolution

face-to-face meetings

Thierry: TPAC in Lyon

… we need to answer by April 30th whether we will meet there

http://www.w3.org/2012/10/TPAC/Overview.html

Olivier: think it would be good to meet f2f

… so question would be "how many times can we reasonably meet again f2f this year?"

… and if so, when

Thierry: would be good to meet when we are dealing with last call comments

Al: would be happy to meet earlier than TPAC

… US would be easier

Doug: agree f2f is useful - also agree it is time consuming and expensive

… would be happy to meet before TPAC

Olivier: should we poll the group to see who could make it to TPAC

<scribe> ACTION: Olivier to start poll to see if group members could be at TPAC [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/03/19-audio-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-40 - Start poll to see if group members could be at TPAC [on Olivier Thereaux - due 2012-03-26].
