Is adding "do not edit this page" to a wiki a good idea?

I'm not sure why adding a "do not edit this page" text to a wiki is a good idea? That's kind of the whole point of having a resource on a wiki; otherwise, just keep the resource on a non-wiki page. (For this topic in particular, I would encourage wiki edits more than anything to share best practices for IRC.) Chris Wilson (talk) 18:21, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

  • +1 The wiki is a community resource and as long as contributions follow the Code of Conduct, we should encourage the community to build and garden it without any top-down gatekeeping. Tantek Çelik (talk) 18:26, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
  • I'm happy to further edit the IRC wiki page to reflect that any additional advice should be suggested on the "IRC" Guidebook page (which is now done through GitHub). I left the wiki page for those who may have a bookmark. Coralie Mercier (talk) 14:10, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
