Tracking and collaborating with IoT industry alliances and standards development organizations

From Web of Things Interest Group

We are tasked with reaching out to external organizations, e.g. IoT industry alliances and standards development organizations with a view to sharing information and gaining an understanding of how to achieve the convergence needed to realise the potential for the IoT/WoT.

This includes invitations to present external work to the Interest Group and vice versa, as well as the drafting of collaboration agreements.

The following wiki page provides a ist of organizations along with brief descriptions

Joint Activities across Industry Alliances and SDOs

  • Joint white paper on Semantic Interoperability with oneM2M, IEEE P2413, Ontology Summit, I4.0, OCF and others
  • To come, a joint white paper on trust assumptions for end to end security across different platforms
  • To come, joint work on integrating specific platforms into the Web of Things

Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC)

Contact: Stephen Mellor

  • Collaboration agreement already in place

oneM2M

WoT Contact: Yongjing Zhang

Contact: Omar Elloumi, Yongjing Zhang

Open Connectivity Foundation

This is relaunch of the Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC).

WoT Contact: Michael McCool

Contact: Michael Richmond, Daniel Park

  • Offer via Michael to OCF to contribute to the joint white paper on semantic interoperability
  • We need to arrange a time slot for someone to speak on behalf of OCF to the TD, SP and AP task forces
  • We need to consider a draft collaboration agreement
  • Daniel is interested in joint face to face meetings, and co-participation in plugfests

Open Group

Contact: Chris Harding

  • Dave has been invited to present WoT to Open Group conference in London on 27 April 2016
  • Chris has agreed to find someone to present Open Group O-MI and O-MF to WoT IG

IoT Security Foundation (IoTSF)

Contact: David Rogers

  • David has been invited to present to the Security task force on 26 November 2015

Google

Contact: Max Senges and Scott Jenson

  • Scott gave us a presentation on Google's Physical Web during the Sunnyvale F2F on 29 July 2015
  • Dave Raggett has written to Max asking for contacts for Google's work on Brillo and Nest Weave, with a view to an invited presentation to the WoT IG

Apple

Contact: tbd

We would like to invite a presentation on Apple's HomeKit.

Industry 4.0

Contact: Peter Adolphs (Pepperl+Fuchs), Prof Diedrich (Universität Magdeburg)

  • Dave Raggett is in communication with Prof. Diedrich in respect to an invitation to present on smart manufacturing, including EDD, FTD FDI and IEC 61499. EDD is analogous to HTML and includes device descriptions, rules and user interface elements. FTD is used for software interfaces for devices in a vendor independent way. FDI provides for packaged applications based upon EDD and FDT. IEC 61499 defines a connected component architecture where connections pass events or values like booleans, numbers and strings. Each component has a control program that relates its inputs to its outputs. PROFINET defines wired and wireless industrial grade Ethernet LANs. PROFINET component description (PCD) files are based upon XML.

OPC Foundation

WoT Contact: Matthias Kovatsch, Dave Raggett

Contact: Stefan Hoppe

  • They are working on OPC-UA which includes protocols and metadata for digital automation
  • An incomplete indication of collaborations: https://opcfoundation.org/markets-collaboration/
  • Dave worked with Stefan Hoppe on an informal memorandum of understanding which was signed at the Hannover trade fair in 2016

AIOTI

WoT Contact: Dave Raggett

  • They have extensive connections with IoT alliances and SDOs
  • They support the EU H2020 large scale IoT pilot projects
  • Dave collaborated with them on the joint white paper on semantic interoperability
  • Their website is at http://www.aioti.org/

Hypercat

Contact: John Davies (BT)

  • Dave Raggett is in touch with John Davies in respect to a possible talk to the WoT IG thing description task force. John says Hypercat is aimed at offering a small mandatory core of ‘horizontal’ metadata for IOT using well-used and understood web tech (hence choice of JSON).

IPSO Alliance

WoT Contact: Jaime Jimenez (Ericsson)

Contact: Rikard Strid (Clayster)

  • Dave Raggett is in touch with Rikard in respect to a possible talk to the WoT IG thing description task force. Michael is also involved with IPSo and I should encourage the two to collaborate on this.

Contact: William Miller (MaCT USA)

ISO/IEC JTC 1/WG 10 (Internet of Things)

Yaeseul is the WG10 secretary and is asking us for feedback on the revised File:Wg10-files.zip. If we want to submit any comments, we requested to use the ISO commenting template and meet the deadline of 8th April 2016.
