This update provides information on activities of the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), for the "Web Accessibility Initiative: Training, Implementation, Education and Support" (WAI-TIES) Project in Europe.

1. Web Accessibility Evaluation Training, 25 October, 2005 in Sankt Augustin, Germany

WAI-TIES will be holding a Best Practices Training on evaluating Web sites for accessibility, on 25 October 2005 in St. Augustin, Germany.

2. WAI Web Site Redesigned -- Come Visit

WAI's new Web site was recently redesigned to make it easier for you to find information on making the Web accessible to people with disabilities. The WAI Web Site Redesign Project lists on-going development to refine the markup, design, and features.

3. Introduction to Web Accessibility -- Updated Resource Available

WAI's recently updated "Introduction to Web Accessibility" addresses key issues of making the Web accessible.

4. The Business Case for Web Accessibility -- New Resource Available

"Developing a Web Accessibility Business Case for Your Organization" describes social, technical, financial, legal and policy factors relevant to developing a customized business case for Web accessibility for a specific organization.

5. Essential Components of Web Accessibility -- New Resource Available

Many people know about WAI's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and the responsibilities of Web developers in making the Web accessible to people with disabilities. But Web developers alone cannot make the Web accessible. Web browsers, assistive technologies, and authoring tools also have a vital role in Web accessibility. "Essential Components of Web Accessibility" describes these roles along with the WAI guidelines.

6. Updated EARL 1.0 Schema Working Draft -- Available for Comment

Evaluation and Report Language (EARL) is a format to exchange, combine, and analyze results from different Web accessibility evaluation tools.

• The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international forum which develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential.

• W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) addresses accessibility of the Web for people with disabilities, through a variety of activities, including technical and guidelines development and educational work.

• WAI Training, Implementation, Education and Support (WAI-TIES) is a project of WAI, funded by the European Commission Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme, to increase training and implementation support on Web accessibility in Europe.
