Deployment
@@Draft for discussion@@
Deployment in version 1 will focus on enabling a few major online retailers to run Web Payment agents to issue Web Payment invoices for processing at 1-2 major online Payment Service Providers (or banks). The payment institutions would then initiate the payment and send a proof of payment back to the retailer.
Goals
- 3 major online retailers launching Web Payments support
- 1-2 major online Payment Service Providers (or banks) launching Web Payments support
- > 1 million payments within the first year after standardization
- Favorable reviews by Web developer community
Capabilities in Future Versions
The group will continue to develop definitions of capabilities for the next round of standards, and will prioritize them. Future capabilities may include:
- Expand the retail and commerce abilities of the Web Payments platform including the addition of offers with more machine-readable information, coupons, loyalty cards, subscriptions/recurring payments, and refunds.
- Enhanced payment instrument selection (e.g., user defines preferences, merchant suggestions, geofencing)
- Harmonized user experience across browser, in-app, in-store. Offline use?
- Security and identity enhancements to enable fully digital enrollment and high-stakes financial transactions (>$10,000 USD transactions).
- Delegation of payment authentication (e.g., for Internet of Things applications)
- Access to accounts and ledgers to facilitate peer-to-peer payments and bridging disparate networks.
