ISSUE-3: What ontology should describe the metadata values (entity types)?

metadata-value-types

What ontology should describe the metadata values (entity types)?

State:
CLOSED
Product:
Implementation: Deep Web Information and MT Training
Raised by:
Tadej Štajner
Opened on:
2012-03-20
Description:
When describing a fragment of text that has been identified as a named entity or a term, we would like to specify the following pieces of information in order to help downstream consumers of the data, for instance when training MT systems:

- exact URI of the entity
- type of the entity (helpful, even if no URI is known)
- labels of the entity in multiple languages (known translations)

The point is that while the entity URI space is open, it would be good to decide on a default vocabulary for describing types. Current candidates are:

- the NERD ontology (Named Entity Disambiguation and Recognition) http://nerd.eurecom.fr/ontology
- schema.org (http://schema.org/docs/full.html)

Any further ideas on what we could support?
