Dear W3C, I receive different responses from W3C's validation service depending on which method I choose to validate my HTML code. If I use the "Validate by File Upload" I receive: This document was Tentatively checked as HTML 4.01 Transitional Result: Tentatively passed, 2 warning(s) If I use "Validate by Direct Input" I receive: This document was successfully checked as HTML 4.01 Transitional! Result: Passed I have attached the file I am validating. Please let me know which results are the ones I should consider correct. I am an online student at the University of Phoenix, and your results as affecting my grades. My instructor, who is checking my work by using your "Validate by File Upload" method, receives 2 warning messages on my HTML code, and is penalizing me points based on these results. I am checking my work by using your "Validate by Direct Input" method, which tells me I have no errors or warnings, in fact, that my code has "passed" and I can include a W3C icon on my Web page because of this high-level result. Could you please explain to me why we receive two different results when checking exactly the same HTML code? Thank you, Jerry Salvatore

The different handling in direct input, file upload and URI is indeed sometimes confusing. Please look at the discussion on: http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=6259 for more details. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 6259 ***
