Description Dirk Schulze 2013-07-04 17:02:28 UTC
Transitions between shorthand filters are very limited. begin and end filter setting do need to have same shorthands and the list of shorthand filters must have the same length. Animation behavior on SVG Filters not defined at the moment.

With the exception of blur, drop-shadow and custom, all functions can be represented with a color matrix. In theory we could interpolate between the matrices numerically.

However, I don't know if the resulting transition is really desirable. It could be as catastrophic as doing it on CSS Transforms.

Right now, browser implementations do not interpolate between two different filter functions.

Any suggestions?

WG decision: We keep limitation.
