I think it would be useful (for me at least) to support the data URIscheme. I believe the spec is in rfc 2397 thought it may have beensuperseded by now.
Definitely won't make 0.6.2. Setting target to 0.7.0 for review in that timeframe.
Ok, so I lied. :-) Since LWP supports these and we get them for free, I've enabled support for this in the Validator's configuration files. Can you test this and verify that it does what you expect Russell? If you don't want to futz with Validator CVS, there will be a beta release going up on http://validator.w3.org:8001/ some time after easter (will be announced on www-validator) that you can test with.
0.6.2 Beta #1 is now up on <http://validator.w3.org:8001/>; can you test to check that this addresses your issue?
Seems to work. <http://validator.w3.org:8001/check?uri=data%3Atext%2Fhtml%3Bcharset%3Dutf-8%2C%253C!DOCTYPE%2520HTML%2520PUBLIC%2520%2522ISO%2FIEC%252015445%3A2000%2F%2FDTD%2520HyperText%2520Markup%2520Language%2F%2FEN%2522%253E%250D%250A%253Chtml%2520lang%3D%2522en-CA%2522%253E%250D%250A%253Chead%253E%250D%250A%253Ctitle%253ETest%253C%2Ftitle%253E%250D%250A%253C%2Fhead%253E%250D%250A%253Cbody%253E%250D%250A%253Cp%253EThis%2520uses%2520a%2520non%26%25238209%3Bbreaking%2520hyphen%253C%2Fp%253E%250D%250A%253C%2Fbody%253E%250D%250A%253C%2Fhtml%253E%250D%250A>
