TPAC 2024 Planning
janina: TPAC is in 5 weeks. I'll be there in person.

matatk: we are updating the wiki page, I'll have all links in the page by the end of the week I hope.
janina: the wiki approach developped thru years has proven usefull. Those of you not coming in person, be sure that W3C is very good at doing hybrid meetings, we encourage you to participate remotely.
EPUB Fixed Layout document: APA questions
- Does the EPUB spec provide reading order info?
janina: we have concerns about this document and at the same time we are learning.
janina: Does fixed layout specification point to something that would give us a reading order?
gautierchomel: I think it's still missing.
janina: Should be able to point to other documents that discuss this? Is this something that the Fixed Layout spec should point to?
gautierchomel: Yes, correct.
matatk: Would user be able to move between different parts of fixed layout content? If the user agent and AT were working, it would be possible.
gautierchomel: Yes, that's correct.
gautierchomel: It's good to make it clear. The document does not cover everything. Document may benefit from a reading by someone outside the community.
gautierchomel: Better option to make it an APA comment.
janina: Is there a section of fixed layout where we'd like to see reading order pointed to? Or is that too specific? Should we just say it is missing.
- Authoring tool support?
janina: We have a next step to this.
gautierchomel: Able to convert PDF into fixed layout. There's no open source tool that can ensure accessibility of fixed layout is maintained.
janina: Did I understand there is some support in commercial tools?
gautierchomel: To my knowledge, nothing in the commercial space. Only some open-source tools support accessibility.
matatk: I understood that aside from the tool mentioned, there isn't support in commercial or open-source tools. There's support in in-house tools developed by publishers.
gautierchomel: That's correct.
gautierchomel: Big publishers do their e-books but they aren't as familiar with structure and this is not optimal.
janina: Will this document say something about that?
gautierchomel: Different ways to do fixed layout. I could do fixed layout all with CSS.
janina: HTML and CSS give us better accessibility support than what this document covers due to the document being limited in scope as to what the tools do

EPUB Tomorrow (exploring accessibility ideas for a future major version)
janina: EPUB is in maintenance, it's a great time to build a wishlist to be ready for the futur.
gautierchomel: We wish to propose a reflow version. We want to get the text and deliver it in reflow view. Just like the reading order. We see they are missing specs on how to use semantics to deliver e-books.
gautierchomel: Some things aren't present in the reading view. The spec says that we need to work on these things but in a non-specific way. These are critical to people's reading experience.
