Agenda Review & Announcements

Matthew_Atkinson: A sensible suggestion has been made in W3C. We should ened all meetings five minutes early.

Matthew_Atkinson: Since Todd is here, we'll do introductions.

New Charters Review https://github.com/w3c/strategy/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22Horizontal+review+requested%22

Privacy-preserving advertising WG

<MichaelC> draft charter: https://patcg.github.io/patwg-charter/charter.html

<MichaelC> comments: https://github.com/w3c/strategy/issues/222

MichaelC: one new charter: Privacy Preserving Advertising Working Group.

MichaelC: They want to provide technical ways to give advertiesers metrics that they care about without giving away individual user details.

MichaelC: They propose a deliverable called Private Attribution Measurement.

MichaelC: No pointers to the draft document.

MichaelC: WE might not be needing to sign off on this.

Lionel> I looked at the draft (which I found). It's not that low level.

janina: I think we care. There mgith be a way aroudn this.

janina: We want to protect the individual's data, we don't want to be redlined or identified.

janina: Having targeted information being made available is very very useful in some contexts.

janina: The question becomes: is there some way to anonymize and still provide information?

janina: I think we would be happy to support their goals if they can show us how they can preserve an individual's specific identity and yet provide enoguh information for sufficient targeting...

<Lionel_Wolberger> https://patcg.github.io/patwg-charter/charter.html

janina: Tjhere are reasons to want to expose disability related information as well.

janina: I don't think we need a liaision, but we will be looking for the individual's identity proteciton mechanism.

<Lionel_Wolberger> https://github.com/patcg/private-measurement

MichaelC: We may want to put in an issue: no comments on the charter, but note that ensuring users of assistive techonlogies are also protected, something along those lines.

janina: This is going to be important.

Lionel_Wolberger: Plus one to what Janina said.

A11y Review Comment Tracker https://w3c.github.io/horizontal-issue-tracker/?repo=w3c/a11y-review

MichaelC: Two in that list.

Considerations for providing alternative text to video poster graphics

ISSUE: https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/7954

<MichaelC> tracking: https://github.com/w3c/a11y-review/issues/117

<trackbot> Created ISSUE-1003 - Https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/7954. Please complete additional details at <https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/track/issues/1003/edit>.

MichaelC: First is Considerations for providing alt text to video close to graphics.

MichaelC: Filed on HTML in WHATWG.

MichaelC: The question is for an alt text for the static image used for when a video is not playing.

janina: That was an issue John Foliot really pushed during HTML5.

janina: It was turned down. I am not surprised it has come back.

janina: It might be worth revisiting.

janina: I think we file issues with WHATWG on Github (?)...

MichaelC: For this issue, it was filed with WHATWG and they are using our horizontal reiew tracking.

MichaelC: W ehave an agreement with each other.

janina: What about a CFC then?

MichaelC: What about just saying we +1 it?

Matthew_Atkinson: Does it depend on how much technical content we want to put in? It is fairly technical but straightforward.

janina: Let's just +1 it. Someone just go do that. I fthere's pushback and they want to do a CFC, we can do that.

MichaelC: What I will do is I'll say APA +1s this issue and it looks like a coupel of other people have done so as well.

janina: Do we have a way to track the eventual disposition o fthat one?

MichaelC: It will continue to show up in our tracker.

Matthew_Atkinson: I'll subscirbe to it myself and I think al who are should do as well.

Produce an WebXR A11y overview doc

ISSUE: https://github.com/immersive-web/webxr/issues/1167

<MichaelC> tracking: https://github.com/w3c/a11y-review/issues/107

<trackbot> Created ISSUE-1004 - Https://github.com/immersive-web/webxr/issues/1167. Please complete additional details at <https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/track/issues/1004/edit>.

MichaelC: The other one in the tracker is just to confirm on the WebXR A11y overview.

Fredrik: Yeah, I'll get to it soon...

Media Source Extensions™

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Media_Source_Extensions%E2%84%A2

Matthew_Atkinson: A very brief update: I haven't reviewed it technically but from an a11y standpoint. They did loads of PIs. There were a couple of minor mistakes on one of them.

Matthew_Atkinson: I have offered to fix the problems and will also complete the technical review, both when I'm back next week.

<MichaelC> https://github.com/w3c/media-source/issues/312

new on TR http://www.w3.org/TR/tr-status-drafts.html

MichaelC: Four TR and two Review requests.

CSS Conditional Rules Module Level 4

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/CSS_Conditional_Rules_Module_Level_4

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-conditional-4/

MichaelC: CSS Conditional Rules Module level 4.

MichaelC: We received our review request for this in January. We need to get our CSS in order. Thsi request is dangling.

Matthew_Atkinson: I will take this as best I can late next week when I get back.

CSS Containment Module Level 3

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/CSS_Containment_Module_Level_3

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-contain-3/

<MichaelC> also see https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/CSS_Containment_Module_Level_2

MichaelC: CSS Containment Model level 3.

MichaelC: I have an old action for Level 2. The appropriate action here is for me to migrate that action to level 3.

Matthew_Atkinson: Sounds fine. If I manage to get through all of mine next week, I'll ask where you are with this one and take over if you ahven't goten to it.

Largest Contentful Paint

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Largest_Contentful_Paint

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/largest-contentful-paint/

MichaelC: Largest Content Full Paint.

MichaelC: This is a metrics reporting feature to report on how long it took the largest thing on the screen to draw. It is extreme ly lowlevel and not of interest to us.

General agreement.

Viewport Capture

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Viewport_Capture

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/mediacapture-viewport/

MichaelC: Viewport Capture.

MichaelC: This is a part of Medica Capture specs. We reviewed the general spec and had no comment and the specific deendencies we have also checked.

Matthew_Atkinson: I don\t disagree necessarily, but we discussed ways thatwhen doing collaboration, we might be able to afford remote access to the DOM. Perhaps a future version fo this could allow this.

MichaelC: In that case it's Media Capture and Streams we want to hang on to.

Matthew_Atkinson: I'll make sure to mention it.

Media Capture and Streams

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Media_Capture_and_Streams

MichaelC: Then there is two new review requests.

CSS Color Module Level 5

<MichaelC> request: https://github.com/w3c/a11y-request/issues/29

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/CSS_Color_Module_Level_5

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-color-5/

MichaelC: CSS Colour Module Level 5.

MichaelC: Two years ago we assigned Janina as chair to take a look at it. We probably should assign someone to it at this point.

WebXR Gamepads Module - Level 1

<MichaelC> request: https://github.com/w3c/a11y-request/issues/30

<MichaelC> fast checklist: https://github.com/immersive-web/webxr-gamepads-module/issues/55

<MichaelC> tracking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/WebXR_Gamepads_Module_-_Level_1

<MichaelC> tr: https://www.w3.org/TR/webxr-gamepads-module-1/

MichaelC: WebXR Gamepads Module Level 1.

MichaelC: We looked at it a few years ago and ended up deciding we didn't have any issues on it.

Matthew_Atkinson: At least I should take it.

PaulG: Just asking about that, where are APA's boundaries here? XR Stnadard controller mapping has tons of a11y issues. It doesn't have any comments a about adaptive controllers and so on. Is that a totally separate concern?

Matthew_Atkinson: It sounds like you possibly have moreexperience than me about controller remapping. If you are aware of any documentation on the gaps, could you point us to it? I think we should follow up on stuff like this.

PaulG: There's someone locally who has done some VR museum exhibit design. I'll look into collaboration with them.

Matthew_Atkinson: We really need to look into it.

Dangling Spec Review Cleanup: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Category:Spec_Review_Assigned

Matthew_Atkinson: There's been progress on the Media Source Extensions TM but I still have to do the technical review on that and on the Hand Input Module for webXR as well.

Matthew_Atkinson: I'll check the priorities with Michael and Janina offline.

MichaelC: I think I've caught the danglers in the other categories.

MichaelC: Media Capture and Streams - do we have someone assigned there?

janina: Matthew and me, basically.

MichaelC: I'll mark you as assignees.

Task Force & Deliverables Updates

ADAPT

janina: We have been closing issues. We are closing on CR!

janina: We are in the process of publishing an updated WD whose main purpose is to capture the name change as part of our process of dotting i's and crossing t's.

janina: Things always slip, which is the reason for the updated WD.

janina: We are a week or two away from CR afte rmany years on WAI ADAPT Content Module 1.0.

janina: No publication without hte messaging to go with it, though.

RQTF

janina: Still closing on a couple of documents very close to CFC for publication as notes.

janina: And a new one getting started!

janina: We have started an AUR for collaborative editing environments.

janina: I think this will be of great interest across multiple groups and massively important and also very useful to the industry.

janina: It is a reason to pay attention to RQTF.

janina: i'LL RAISE IT AGAIN NEXT WEEK.

Actions Checkin (Specs) https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/track/actions/open

Matthew_Atkinson: Not the most appropriate place, but here is an action for all of us.

Matthew_Atkinson: There is a CFC on teh APA/admin list. It is a commetn we want to put ot the poeple developing the reporting spec.

<janina> https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-apa-admin/2022May/0010.html

Matthew_Atkinson: What this is about in a nutshell is providing a way to associate certain reporting metadata with HTTP endpoints (URIs, URLs).

Matthew_Atkinson: Their focus has been on privacy concerns and so on. Paul suggested it wouod be perfect for a11y.

Matthew_Atkinson: With their input we have worked on this for a week now.

janina: I just put the URI to that CFC in the channel. Plese take a read.

janina: We are asking for an exploratory meeting.

janina: Assuming that what we would ask for form this group is granted us, we would have a fair amonunt of work to take advantage of. We want a aspot intehir API for an a11y endpoint. How this is then taken advantage of has to be dfined elsewhere.

janina: Thsi may involve lots of different groups.

janina: It may warrant a TPAC session as well.

janina: If it proves worthwile, we'll go to the next steps.

janina: We want to check how they see this mechanism, what they think it is useful for.

janina: Please weigh in / there's a lot of expertise in this group. We need everyone's brain on this.

TPAC22 https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Meetings/TPAC_2022

Matthew_Atkinson: We put forward the requests of the task forces in terms of meetings. We will get feedback at some point. It will all be fantastic.

Other Business

Matthew_Atkinson: Good job us! We made it in time!
