Meeting minutes

minutes from VF2F

<McCool> proposal: publish TPAC 2021 WoT F2F and OpenDay minutes

RESOLUTION: publish TPAC 2021 WoT F2F and OpenDay minutes

McCool: objections?

resolution is approved

review minutes

<kaz> Nov-10

McCool: small corrections noted

Kaz: fixed

McCool: any objections to publish?

McCool: no objections

quick updates

McCool: talk about security on the 23rd
… going to talk about security in general and will add a blurb about WoT

McCool: review editors call discussion about publication schedule for the normative specs

McCool: won't be able to attend the calls early AM in North America but will defer to the rest of the participants

Lagally: the 10:00 UTC is only for this week, and we will look for a new time slot

Kaz: will allocate a new Webex now

McCool: need to update the WoT events on the web page
… need to discuss in the Marketing call

mm, ege: discussion on some proposals for the update

McCool: any objections to the discussed update?

Kaz: I'm OK with removing or shrinking the information if everybody agrees. However, those the links have been useful, maybe we can condense the list to comma-separated to reduce the scrolling problem

McCool: needs to be better navigation bar also

<McCool> proposal: restructure top of wiki pages to reduce space used for links to TF in every wiki; remove obsolete tfs

Lagally: there are other issues with navigation; the main page has a lot of confusion
… maybe we can move the links to old stuff to the bottom

McCool: moving to the bottom might make things harder to find
… but we can first remove the old content
… and make the list smaller

Kaz: let's create another issue to track what we're doing

McCool: let's break it down to single pieces

RESOLUTION: restructure top of wiki pages to reduce space used for links to TF in every wiki; remove obsolete tfs

McCool: any objections?
… approved

<McCool> mm: kaz will implement...

ACTION: kaz to work on the restructuring of links on the TF wikis

McCool: updates from Japan CG?

<Zakim> kaz, you wanted to react to kaz

Mizushima-san: completed the discussion (?)

McCool: prefer to add upcoming meeting to the W3C calendar, even if not an English-speaking event

LAGALLY: what is the status of the WoT CG?

Kaz: it's complicated; we can discuss next time

McCool: marketing group should be part of the CG, maybe could lead the CG

McCool: CG includes outreach and other overlap with marketing

Ege: second this

Kaz: one issue is web page maintenance being done outside the WG

IG charter

Kaz: current status is reviewing 2 comments from W3C management, and there are 2 issues to address these

McCool: I fixed some of these already, must have missed some instances

McCool: any objections to merging PR 1008?

McCool: there are some typos remaining, I can fix them
… we can merge on the next call

Lagally: should we talk about plans separately from past activities

Kaz: we should keep the description of past activities

McCool: PR 1006, we need to create an issue about descriptions on TF wiki pages

issue #231

<McCool> https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/231

WG extension and rechartering

McCool: not super critical due to the extension
… the issue is collecting topics on things to worry about
… please propose new topics for the new charter
… we're running out of time on the current charter, don't know if we have to do anything to resolve things
… we do need to finalize the proposal

Sebastian: we all agree on the proposal

Kaz: we are already submitting by email

McCool: no update on Smart Cities
… Joint call with ITU-T on Feb. 3rd

McCool: opc-ua waiting for follow-up meeting

TF reports

McCool: scripting

Daniel: discussing next charter, approved PRs and created new issues
… also scrip management

McCool: security - discussed best practices document and adding sections on onboarding and local networks, needs to relax TLS requirement for local networks
… reviewed a lot of specs, we should use IETF guidance around this
… discovery - main discussion is JSON path and leaning toward making JSON path informative
… currently missing regex so we can't even subset now
… leaves only Xpath and SPARQL
… the current proposal is no mandatory query mechanism

McCool: looking to JSON path in 2.0
… marketing

Ege: discussed PRs to update the web page
… navigation bar improvements and a context tab

Ege: talked about charter
… closed some superficial issues

Daniel: update events and time zone information

Ege: there is an issue about navigation to Events, currently it's not intuitive

Daniel: need a dedicated navigation item

McCool: use case TF

Lagally: had a call with Conexxus and will follow up next week
… common theme emerging is orchestration - may need a TD mechanism to describe orchestration

McCool: TD

Sebastian: working on issues around compatibility with TD 1.0
… optimistic about completing by end of November
… discussion about the new namespace and have a proposal for today's meeting
… remaining items like IANA registration, file extension

McCool: also need to update discovery for the new TD

McCool: architecture

Lagally: reviewed the extension plan, long discussion
… reviewing proposals for discovery in the profile
… open issue about missing information in the discovery spec
… 17 PRs and 20 issues, need to see which are blocking

McCool: want to remind everyone that there is a proposal from Ben about asynchronous decision process

<McCool> https://github.com/w3c/wot/pull/1005

Kaz: we should wait until the next charter period to make changes

McCool: there needs to be a better writeup in the charter
… please review and comment on the PR

Lagally: there seems to be a recent change in expectations around the decision process

Lagally: some proposed changes are too big to review, etc.

McCool: need to put this on the agenda for next week priority
… please review the PR and prepare to discuss
… plugfest call at :13
… adjourned

<kaz> [main call adjourned; PlugFest call starts at :13 on this WebEx and #wot-pf IRC channel]
