Agenda Review & Announcements on APA

New Publishing Timeline (Call for Exclusions: Specification for Spoken Presentation in HTML)

<Roy> https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20200915/

janina: if you have any patent concern, you need to take action. most of our specs in APA we do not run into that. if someone does have any issue, then there is a time period

JF: we have just renewed our charter so AC rep needs to action for rejoin process

janina: it was renewed week ago and there is a 45 grace period to renew. if you are invited expert, following the link to join. Otherwise AC rep can simply nominate to this group.

janina: if you do not do join, you will be kicked out

janina: best to get it done before end of sep.

<Roy> https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20200915/#sec-Exclusion

PaulG: there were several question about some stuff such as HTML lang and other properties. need to cleanup and add more examples before we publish our next version.

PaulG: looking for Alan's update and will proceed.

Incorporate Feedback

janina: how can we come with an engineered resolution what browser and AT vendors are saying.

PaulG: anyone wants to offer any idea how to handle some of the stuff such as HTML lang?

janina: dont see there is too much problem for TTS for some languages and it can be challenging for some languages.

PaulG: is there any case where HTML lang understood by AT.

PaulG: if one voice can handle all the use cases, its a different problem to solve.

janina: its a useful problem to solve

PaulG: voice languages attribute is a different problem and we may want to clarify if we have it correct. if it makes sense about the problem we are trying to solve.

PaulG: one of the main reason reason was that not any voice actor can keep the correct pronunciation for different language.

<Dee> Janina: worried about properly handling different languages in different time periods, for example Latin over different time periods.

<Dee> Paul: for ease drop the use case for one voice announcing multiple languages

<Dee> Paul; chances of finding certain combinations of voices would be difficult to find

<Dee> Paul: remove SSML Languages. Use HTML Lang

<Dee> Janina: bring meta tags to meeting with epub

<JF> https://schema.org/accessibilityFeature

<JF> https://www.w3.org/wiki/WebSchemas/Accessibility

<Dee> JF: the question is not so much how to attach the info to the document, but if we don't have the vocab in the schema now, how do we add it?

<Dee> Janina; we need to be very explicit

<Dee> JF: we may need to create new vocab at schema.org

<Dee> Paul: maybe we also add a meta tag to prompt user - opt in or keep default

<Dee> Paul: possible TPAC topic, preference setting

<Dee> JF: Ensure TPAC topic is on agenda for meeting with epub

<Dee> Janina: already done

Other Business

<janina> https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Meetings/TPAC_2021

<Dee> use the link posted by Janina to access the information

<Dee> Janina: Pronunciation shows up a number of times.
