Meeting minutes
matters arising
future of group
john_ob: cost is really proving to be a challenge
… and the cost of being a member is very high compared to other industry groups
… we've had great content, but without an audience, we're not really delivering
nicktr: moving to a community group means we can remove the cost barrier
… but we will probably meet a little less often
phila: do we lose staff support?
linda: I would hope that we can continue to have staff support for a while
… but I would note that we kicked off during a pandemic - retailers/merchants have been very distracted
… convenience store owners have minimal bandwidth
… and now we're going into summer
… perhaps reboot in the fall?
phila: merchants have pivoted and have done a huge amount of digitisation in a very short time
linda: retailers are realising that the third-party platforms are disintermediating them from their customers
karen: we were fixed on the price issue, but Phil and Linda are right to point out the bigger picture
… is there an industry event that we could hang a reboot on?
phil: the January NRF show (back to back with CES) seems like a good opportunity
linda: there are going to be industry events in the fall of 21 like MAG and NACS
… I think travel bans and budgets will be restrictive until the end of the year
<Karen> [Linda mentioned several retail org meetings coming up: https://
<Karen> https://
<Karen> CES, Jan. 2021: https://
phila: it might be better to run the content as a set of webinars
… rather than pitching it as a community group
<Karen> [NRF, Jan 2022: https://
<Karen> +1 more video, webinar-based events
phila: because we're trying to reach audiences that heard
<Karen> +1 Linda's offer of support
nicktr: That's exactly right
… we hope to do more active outreach
… Linda - I'd be very happy to support NACS/Connexxus
nicktr: are you happy with the change?
phila: it's good to have staff support
benoit: I am supportive
Decision: group supports a change to a community group
future topics
nicktr: i. Crypto
ii. Fundraising/charities
iii. Accessibility – navigating conversion and accessibility
iv. Browser privacy changes
linda: I think this issue with regard to third-party delivery platforms is definitely worth a session
… both for small and large retailers
linda: I would also consider re-running some of our earlier content
phila: of course, our main topic is barcodes - or more importantly the identifiers within the bar codes
john: good summary tonight.
… let's focus on the content
We will document the decision to move to a community group to the group's membership
nicktr: the chairs and I will draft a possible programme of webinars
… we hope to meet in late June or early July to discuss that with the group
… with the intention of kicking back off the webinars in early September
nicktr: thanks all
