Agenda

Payment Request API Update

NickTR: We have started a call for consensus to advance to Proposed Rec

call for consensus until 27 January

NickTR: New issue (936) came up about a week ago; please weigh in on the proposal on GitHub

SPC

Ian: Expect Stripe to share experiment findings end of Feb...

Gerhard: Any info on the timeline for porting to new platforms (beyond MacOS + Chrome)?

Danyao: We plan to make it available on Windows in an origin trial.
… we don't yet have plans on Android but are seeking a partner
… I can say that early data are promising; we are making some adjustments to the UX based on feedback.
… we also plan to start working on a specification
… we need to decide if the WPWG is the right place to incubate this specification (because it also has tie-in with WebAuthn
… we also want to ensure that the design is not biased by the pilot
… so we are interested in partnering with an ACS (for the 3DS use case)
… we are also interested in demonstrating generality by looking for partners for other payment methods (e.g., open banking)

Gerhard: Entersekt is an ACS vendor; would be interested in Android port (for banks in Africa)
… also want to reiterate interest in Windows + Mac desktops

Ian: I think should be in WPWG since as I understand it it most has an impact on that spec. We can use the task force with WebAUthn

Flurry of activities anticipated if support for working on SPC:

* More experimentation with other partners (e.g., banks)

* Initial specification

* Expansion of implementation to other platforms (currently on Mac only for the experiment)

* Outreach (more browsers, more PSPs, more banks, more payment systems including SRC)

* Coordination with the 3DS WG at EMVCo (for use case of SPC with 3DS)

* Coordination with the WebAuthn folks via the joint task force

* Communication of the findings

<Zakim> Gerhard, you wanted to comment on where this should live

Gerhard: If it's about WebAuthn in payments, +1 to WPWG. But if mostly about WebAuthn, then could be that group

Merchant Business Group Update

NickTR: The Merchant BG is up and running. We have held several calls. Recent agenda, for example, was GS1 on bard cards.
… we heard from FIS about payments landscape
… upcoming; advertising Business Group info sharing

nickTR: Contact me or Ian if you (or your merchant partners) want to get more involved

clinton: What is the status of QR code discussions?

NickTR: We had some WG calls (e.g., December)
… I raised an issue about QR codes on GitHub. For the moment we don't have workshop being planned

IJ: Another topic where we'll hear stuff - Web Monetization (expect end of Q1)

Multi-day meetings in 2021

Ian: Current expectation is virtual TPAC 2021...but meeting planners would like input. Some other orgs we work with are anticipating in-person meetings in Q4 (but will depend on situation, of course). Can people speak about corporate travel policies?

Clinton: For budgeting purposes, good to know sooner.

Fawad: Agree with Clinton; it's hard to say we'll be allowed to travel in Q4. (At least through June cannot travel.)

<nicktr> I have no plans to travel until I get the vaccine - after that, I will be happy (delighted) to resume my peregrinations

NickTR: Meanwhile, for March/April I would be keen to hold a meeting around then.
… SPC likely to figure prominently

Ian: Any conflicts for meeting 29 March to 2 April?

NickTR: 2 April is Good Friday

PROPOSED: Hold a multi-day meeting (probably centered on SPC) end of March/early April 2021

<nicktr> +1

<AdrianHB> +1

Action: Ian to work with Nick and Adrian to find out if 29 March - 1 April conflicts with other org events

Basic Card

Card Network Identifiers Approved for use with Payment Request API and change policy.

Ian: Is PayPak a recognized card network?

Action: Ian to reach out to JCB and UnionPay colleagues on this question

NickTR: Let's bring the question back after some further study.

<Zakim> vkuntz, you wanted to aks the question on the criteria to accept new cards on the list

vkuntz: Is there a regulatory stamp, for example, that could help establish confidence in adding a new id?
… there are analogous mechanisms for banks
… is there an authority for card networks?

nicktr: BIN range controller might be another way to help make a determination

clinton: The american bank association publishes BIN ranges for ISO
… it's not a public document
… some BIN ranges may also be sublet to other parties

<benoit> a real DNS-style repo/service for BIN/IIN would be _so_ nice

<benoit> I have used binbase in the past. not free, but frequently updated and massive

Action: Fawad to look for more information on the PayPak card network

Next meeting

4 February

<Zakim> AdrianHB, you wanted to suggest we deprecate basic card ASAP...

AdrianHB: I suggest we deprecate basic card
… since being deprecated in Chrome

NickTR: Let's take that up at a future meeting

Summary of action items

  1. Ian to work with Nick and Adrian to find out if 29 March - 1 April conflicts with other org events
  2. Ian to reach out to JCB and UnionPay colleagues on this question
  3. Fawad to look for more information on the PayPak card network
