FYI on upcoming WCAG rechartering advance notice

<MichaelC> joc: divisions in WCAG WG, but think we´re making progress

<MichaelC> key one is whether to commit to a set update timeline for the guidelines

<MichaelC> AWK has been putting around feelers outside the WG

<MichaelC> seems like positive feedback so far on the plans

<MichaelC> ¨the kittens of legislation seem to be appeased¨

<MichaelC> still people pushing hard in the WG on the topic

<MichaelC> AWK and I doing our level best

<MichaelC> don´t know how else to approach this

<MichaelC> have done due diligence in listening to opinions

<MichaelC> still trying to thread a needle

<MichaelC> think we´re managing discussion reasonably well though people still expressing concerns

<MichaelC> jb: hope AWK using the same talking points we´ve been using

<Joshue108> JB: Andrew, when you are contacting people, I hope you are using the same talking points?

<Joshue108> JB: I will talk with China and the EU commission.

<MichaelC> I can contact China etc., with same talking points

<Joshue108> JB: We should co-ordinate on that.

<Joshue108> AWK: The context is that, I have been talking with people.

<Joshue108> AWK: I spoke with David Capozzi, and he thought is all sounds great.

<Joshue108> AWK: Some people are saying that even the idea of a 2.1 is going to freak out regulators.

<Joshue108> AWK: So we have reached out to a few, keeping to the main points etc.

<Joshue108> AWK: The wide review will get more detail to us.

<Joshue108> AWK: The CFC ends tomorrow.

<Joshue108> AWK: That is to allow the draft charter to proceed.

<Joshue108> AWK: Some questions have come up.. but most are a combination of being off topic and easily addressed.

<Joshue108> AWK: Appreciate Josh feeling exhanusted :-)

<Joshue108> AWK: Its tiring stuff.

<Joshue108> JB: AWK, Michael can you give us the bare outline of the proposal.

<Joshue108> AWK: Sure.

<Joshue108> AWK: In short, we are looking at a 3 year charter that will give us time to produce a 2.1

<Joshue108> AWK: As an incremental update

<Joshue108> AWK: That will be done June 2018

<Joshue108> AWK: And we will be doing parallel work on Silver with FPWD in Oct 2019 for that.

<Joshue108> AWK: There is also the ACT TF

<Joshue108> AWK: Deliverable there also

<Joshue108> AWK: We are not being chartered for extensions

<Joshue108> AWK: So we are changing course.

<Joshue108> AWK: We are also changing the name to the AGWG

<Joshue108> AWK: So it will be a combination of user agent stuff etc all together.

<Joshue108> JB: Questions?

<Joshue108> <crickets>

<Joshue108> AWK: If anyone has an AC rep, please do ask them to respond.

<Joshue108> JB: There will be two messages going out.

<Joshue108> JB: One to the W3C AC

<Joshue108> JB: Another to the broad community

<Joshue108> JB: Then both of those inputs will close.

<Joshue108> JB: Questions will come back to the WG, and then be sent out to formal review.

<Joshue108> JB: So anything you can do to tell your AC to look for this would be good

Accessibility Conformance Testing TF sign-up reminder

<Joshue108> JB: This is a reminder..

Judy: Just a reminder again

Shadi: TF is up and running
... have good participation but looking for more
... esp people who can take active editorial and facilitation roles
... working on req's to get into more detail than in work statement
... first F2F at TPAC and that went well
... if you know anyone who might be interested send them to Shadi
... some others have expressed interest but more ppl needed

Brent: Mentioned Chelsea from Pearson possibly joining. Do ppl need to be on WCAG WG?

Shadi: Yes
... Let Michael or chairs know

Judy: When is the notice being posted?

Shadi: Soon

FYI on early work on accessibility MOOC

Judy: W3C.x, which is a collaboration between W3C and ED.x on HTML course heavily subscribed
... interest from different members on this
... Judy and Shadi are working on it
... ideas/comments to them

<AWK_> Scribe: AWK_

Judy: W3C.x is a MOOC

<Joshue108> looks cool

+AWK

Judy: Had ~200K people registered
... we are looking to piggyback on those numbers

Shadi: commenting on the MOOC aspect
... EdX would be one delivery channel but other channels are also possible
... still needs to be refined

JOC: Who is teaching it?

Judy: TBD

New ARIA test harness re-usable for UAAG 2.0?

Judy: Joanie and Shane's test harness
... feedback on their harness? Other ways to use it?

MichaelC: As I understand it the ARIA harness looks at how items in sample code are represented in Accessibility APIs
... not sure if applicable to UAAG
... perhaps WebDriver would be better?
... not sure how that would work, but just a thought

Judy: preliminary look suggests that it may help

Rich: need to finish the test harness to support all of the browser mappings
... still need to develop the tests
... HTML WG is looking at the solution as well
... Harness doesn't work with mobile browsers yet
... to the extent that you can talk with APIs in the browser it should be fine

Shadi: Also in the ACT TF we are looking at it
... trying to build on existing things, so still reviewing
... Any pointers?

Rich: Jon Gunderson is holding calls that might help
... call tonight

<MichaelC> ARIA test list

<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to talk about relation to w3c test framework

MichaelC: Meeting cancelled tonight
... designed to fit into he framework that PLH has been working on
... Shane has developed experience working in that framework and may be able to help

Check-in on any Reorg progress questions/gaps

Judy: getting questions about how to get x or y done in new structure
... WAI director is happy to help

Topics to go to/from WAI IG?

Judy: Any issues for the IG list to be discussed?

MichaelC: WCAG wide review message may go out soon
... ARIA 1.1 going to CR
... some APA items coming but not yet

JS: wants to get TPAC updates in before sending APA items

Judy: any issue in groups that people on IG should discuss

Preparing for milestone check-ins

Judy: milestones will be reviewed regularly
... There is a mitigating section of the reorg document that can affect milestones
... do people regularly look at their milestones?

MichaelC: For ARIA we did a pass a couple weeks ago with PLH and then spoke with Rich and ARIA group
... for WCAG it is 2x yearly Techs and Understanding docs and they are rocking it
... APA hasn't been doing publication work
... the CAPTCHA note and WTAG work is different

<scribe> ... new 6 month milestone for the WTAG work

Brent: aware of milestones, shuffling priorities to keep on track.
... working to make sure that they are all hit before the end of the charter

Judy: When rechartering know that it can take months so plan final milestones accordingly
... as they may be part of the charter review

<MichaelC> q_

MichaelC: For WCAG much of the TF work is in the WCAG 2.1 plan
... There is some COGA work that is in MichaelC's queue

Pending cross-reviews?

Judy: are there any open needs for reviews? (No)

Pending CG or Workshop Liaisons?

Judy: Charles LaPierre is going to the Virtual Reality Workshop, and we will be meeting to brainstorm
... other workshops. Not aware of others? Anyone else?
... for CG's, any updates?

JS: no particular update, did join a CG herself. Interested in the driverless one

Messaging of any upcoming publications?

MichaelC: ARIA 1.1, DPUB roles - to CR
... COGA work (FPWD), COGA gap analysis,
... Accessibility API mappings in Jan/Feb
... Graphics roles may be soon?

Judy and Michael will talk off-line to figure out a good way to keep a list

Judy: COGA gap analysis sounds like a WAI IG discussion?

<MichaelC> Cognitive Accessibility Roadmap and Gap Analysis editors´ draft

MichaelC: it is based on user research and research

Judy: We can raise it with Katie

AWK: as an editor's draft just raising the need for feedback on the list may stimulate discussion

<Zakim> AWK_, you wanted to ask proceeding how (SVG)

Judy: as much as I know
... trying to proceed with the SVG 2 spec
... think decision was made to go to the next step, with some features withdrawn possibly?
... things still getting figured out

Any other business?

Judy: ARIA and TAG check in
... how is that going?

Rich: was a bit of a wild goose chase
... They wanted support for web components and all HTML elements
... we are doing that post-ARIA 1.1 and as a result they are happy

Judy: in looking into the ARIA issue in the issue repository
... do we have representation? Issue was related to keyboard access?

MichaelC: Not sure of the issue
... need more information

Judy: will follow up with Ralph

Next meeting: next date, topic requests

+1 to regular schedule

Judy: request for regular schedule
... our pattern is every other week

That would mean the next meeting is October 26 and then November 9 and then November 23

Judy: what do people think?
